heresy - the old N4 AI was better

Hear me out.  I've examined many wrecks of mine.  90+% of the time I:

A.      Slipped up in the corner into the AI.
B.      Tried to pass from too far back and properly had the door
slammed.
C.      Was going too slow into the corner.

Only 10% of the time was it the AI's fault.  Mostly it was impatience
on mine.  You needed to wait for a _good_ pasing opportunity, not just
dive inside with abandon going into the turn.  Often you needed a few
corners to complete the pass, just like in real life.

Now you can do anything.  Folks, it's natural to be sweating bullets
about slipping up when you are passing someone on the inside.  It's
natural to be sweating bullets when your spotter says "three wide".
It's not natural if it's ho-hum, as it is now.

Yeah, in some ways it's more fun to not be crashing so much.  But I
truly miss the intensity, which was much more like real life (I raced
SCCA for ten years).

With the old AI, after I spent a lot of time at a track I could run a
decent length race (1/2 hour anyway) without crashing.  It was a real
accomplishment and careful driving worked.   Now it's just too easy
and you can get away with sloppy driving.

Well said and I agree 100%. I tried to say this a while back and everyone
around here just trashed me. Having patience and holding your line
eliminated about 80% of the AI problems.

Maybe Papy is trying to make it a tad more forgivable so the normal
racers can still have fun and rack up their profits.  I want Papy to get
rich off this stuff!  I would like to see more driving sims using the N4
physics platform.  More More More!  Please :)  Since you know the AI is
more forgiving you can adjust to *not* take advantage of it; while the
other people can race to their hearts content making wild passes that
you and I would never try because we know it's not in the spirit of
racing.

Personally, I haven't race a full season with the AI since N2 and just
use the AI for practicing.  Online is where the real action is.

My thoughts,
Jason.

well its less fun cause they give you so much room that you can pass with
your eyes closed.I like to practice racing in traffic with the AI but since
they are so wimpy its hard to learn half as much from them :)
Still a ton of fun though but its just not as much of a learning how to
drive right experience:(

Well I have all my drivers at 100-100 aggression and I dont think it helped
or at least it didnt give me what I was lookin for :(

The old AI were blind as bats.  I could never get past 10 laps without one
of our favorite hero's ramming me into the infield if I tried to pass.

IMHO...

That never happened to me. But the old AI would chop ya sometimes but if
you ran a cuople races you learn to know if its safe to pass them or not.
