N4 AI - Too agressive or is it my own fault?

Well it seems that I crash alot. I sometimes blame myself for being too
agressive, but wonder if the AI car should back off a little. For example
just now I was at Lowe's Speedway, at that double turn whatever you call it
right at the start/finish line, and I an faster than the car in front of me.
I squeeze in on the inside, and since i'm trying a tighter turn i drift out
a bit, but the guy I am passing just totally sticks to his line. Needless to
say, i bump into him and go spinning, and he drives away merrily, probably
laughing at me. So I want to know, was I trying an impossible move, or
should the AI not stick to the proper line so much, and give me a couple
more inches to pass, since i was faster and on the inside.

Yes and no.  There will ALWAYS be spots you should avoid the AI.
The manuevers they do are sometimes very smart, sometimes very dumb.  So
mainly through experience, you have to learn the 2 or 3 places at each track
the AI wants to go...you'll just have to make mental notes..like...avoid
this spot...don't go there, etc.
I've found if I pass inside, I'd better be well up on the AI's door or
they will still come down and wreck ya.

Unless you are more than half the car length or so along the racing line
to the car you are trying to overtake, the car in front has the right to
take the racing line, and the car behind is responsible not to cause an
accident. The car behind is also responsible not to get itself in a
situation where the car in front would be denied to take its line,
unless enough advantage is gained as per the above rule.

Your mistake is entering the corner too fast for the line you're trying
to take. Since you chose a line that is less than ideal, you need to
slow down more as you are probably trying to make a tighter corner than
usual, otherwise you'll drift out and cause an accident. If you need to
slow down so much that you are unable to overtake the car in front, then
you shouldn't even try to execute the maneuver.

A rule I learned, sometimes the hard way when racing GPL online to the
dismay of fellow racers: many passing opportunities - aren't!

You can learn a lot by looking at replays from the helicopter view after a
crash.  After giving the AI a good cussing for causing a crash, as often as
not I discover it was my fault.

Sigh.  I know that feeling all too often.  Sometimes I know it even as it
unfolds...
