GPL Crashes or lose Joystick setting

by L Butto » Tue, 19 Feb 2002 09:16:03

Having a problem where grand prix legends, it will either lose the Joystick
settings whenever I go to a menu and after several times just crashes and
returns me to the desktop or sometimes just crashes first.

Also if it keeps working for about 30 Min. without a crash, suddenly the
frame rate drops from 30 + FPS to between 3 to 6 FPS. I have to reboot to
clear this problem.

I'm using the original version of GPL and an AMD 1.0 Ghz, 256 Mg. RAM, ATI
All-in-Wonder Video Card with 16 Mg RAM, 15 Gbytes free disk space, and
DirectX 7.0.

Would anyone have any idea's how to cure this ?

Thanks,
Laurie

I had a similar problem that turned out to be a faulty serial catridge for
my act-labs force-rs.

It would work quite happily for 30 mins then the fps would dip eventually to
2-3 then the computer would lockup (and it happened in both GPL & Nascar4)!

However  I never had the lose of joystick problem you describe

I was having constant problems, losing joystick settings with my home
built wheel and pedals for ages until somewhere in R.A.S. I read about
DX Tweak, a util for adjusting controller settings.

Can't remember where I downloaded it from but it certainly solved all my
problems as far as that went. Maybe someone else here can point you to
the URL?

As far as crashing to the desktop goes, I had that more recently and the
only remedy was to back up all my settings and re-install GPL.

Cheers, Glenn

So I'm not the only one.. I reinstalled windows a month or 3 ago and
since then I have this problem. When I start my pc and start GPL all
is ok, 36fps at all tracks. But when I run 'some' other programs,
leave the computer on for about an hour, and I start GPL, I have
massive fps problems. Suddenly I get major stutters and fps varies
randomly from 37 (yes, 37) to 15 or so.

A fresh restart and all is ok again.. I have the same problem in every
racing sim btw, so it's not the sim that is faulty.

I guess it's a driver problem.. but I tried a lot of different GF2
drivers, and also ending all tasks with ctrl-alt-delete does not fix
the problem, so it's not something running in the background causing
the problem.

I guess reinstalling windows AGAIN is the only option :-/

Sounds like something running in the background has a memory leak.  Are
you using something like enditall2 to shut down stuff you don't need
running?
