WinVROC & VROC Issues...

by Mark Robert » Mon, 07 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Hi.  Whenever I try to use the VROC racerooms, it causes the underlying VROC
main page to lock up in Internet Explorer.  Only a ctrl-alt-del (and the
resulting blue screen of death & reboot) will get rid of it.  I can join
races fine, though, and see them all listed on the applet.  Does anyone else
have this problem?  I looked at the VROC FAQ's and didn't see any mention of
it....  (I can go around on the main page normally with no problems - it
only locks if I launch the race pages.)

Second, I NEVER can get a 'green flag' when I launch from WinVroc.  I
connect fine, it finds the first person on the server, and proceeds to say
that the session is over (even if WinVroc says otherwise), and won't let me
in.  The VROC site says something about this being a known problem with the
1.2 patch and that it's not really a WinVroc issue.  Is there no work around
for this yet?  I can't join races through either WinVroc or VROC (unless if
I'm ready to hit 'reset' after each race) and it's frustrating!

For now, I'm just hosting races (hey, I have a DSL line! :-) ), but that
seems to cause a whole other set of issues, which I'll leave for another
post.

Thanks for the feedback....

what often works for me Mark is to disconnect and reconnect (don't go back
to WinVroc)
Hope this helps

WinVROC & VROC Issues...

Yep, I got something similar to this every time I went to the raceroom
in IE4.  It would always lock up and involve a press of the reset button
to get things up and running again.  I never discovered the reason why
though, when scandisk was run it would find disassociated sectors
amounting to the same number of bytes each time (about 140ks worth), and
when I had a look at these the word Java would be all the way through
these sectors, so I assumed something in the applet was causing a
problem with my IE4, although the version, 4.72 was supposed to be fine
if I recall.
This all happened about 3 months ago and I've never gone back there
since.

Fortunately for me I've never had a problem with WinVROC.  I'm not quite
sure where your problem is happening.  I'm guessing here that you mean
that when you try to join a race that has a green rating (no good
joining the red ones) your GPL is launched, but it then says that you
are too late to join the race.  Something like 'No more drivers are
being accepted at this time'.  Unfortunately I cannot help here, only to
say that when online all I have running is WinVroc, explorer and
systray.  I do not have IE4 running in the background.
