*ego-boosting post alert*

Well, after the nightmares of Wednesday and Thursday, Friday is going
good! I found a workaround for my brake pedal problem and.....
I just ran a 1m28.28 at Monza in the Ferrari!!! Only 3 tenths off my
best in the Lotus :-)

I reckon if I can avoid my regular small mistakes and use flat-shifting
(it might not sound like it but I DID lift for every shift on this lap)
a 1m27 is on. Time to breathe deeply.....

Replay and setup available at:

Cheers!

Well that is excellent news.

Your fellow IGPS competitors are positively rejoicing in their homes.

Was life really that bad? Heck I didn't even have a ZX81 at your age!!!!

Cheers

Congratulations! :)
I have done 1:27.9 in the Lotus so that's a great time in the Ferrari.
But how much do think flat-shifting helps? I guess at Monza and Spa it's
more useful than at the slower tracks. I always try to lift when I'm
shifting, feels better. :)

I watched Graeme's replay at Monza of that great lap. If that isn't flat
shifting, you might as well give up with the lifts! The tach goes hard
against the rev limiter on each shift. The purpose of lifting is supposed to
be to avoid that, and save the engine from over-revving.

None-the-less, a great lap in the red machine. Thanks for the set-up Graeme!
I can't drive it very well, but it has given me some direction with my own,
and I finally got down into the 1:29s with the Ferrari.

I think flat-shifting may be worth a tenth or two at Monza, although
it's only tracks like that where you'll see an advantage. I feel that
lifting while you shift (shlifting?) may give you an advantage at some
places, such as Mosport, where you need to settle the car a lot since
you're always bending into one turn or another. Keeping the revs down
can do just that :-)

Yes, yes, very good lap. But I agree Greger, I can't bring myself to
flat-shifting either... even with a joystick. It took quite a lot of
time to get the "lift-press-throttleon" sequence right with the stick,
and now that I do, flat-shifting is just too damn weird. Anything out of
the ordinary on a fast lap is not good, IMHO.

I don't think it's worth a lot... MAYBE a tenth at Monza, not much more.
And I don't think anyone will ever have a reliable estimate because
there are too many other variables on each lap; that someone doing one
lap flat-shifting and one while lifting can ever duplicate them 100% to
say "this was the difference flat-shifting."
