Realistically tho Mike, N4 is run on a flat or semi-flat 2D screen
where as if you are in a "Real" Nascar car it is all 3D with 100%
peripheral vision. Not so in N4 :)

N4 In-car view

Check out what N4 looks like in 3D.  I think the effect makes it seem even
more claustrophobic.  It's really immersive seeing the wheel move towards
your face when braking.  Just cross your eyes to see the pictures in 3d.

Thanks for posting the link. Yes, it's a great modified view.  But when I
tried it the sound is muffled (like with the original roof-cam) and the
sound is off-center.  Is that by design, or a prob with my cptr?

well, i was not trying to be mean to you :-)

but, how many other in-car veiws would you like? lol

as far as i know, everyone sits in the same place in every car in Winston
Cup lol

The view in Nascar Racing 4 is realistic.  It's a realistic simulation of
the current Winston Cup NASCAR season, therefore it has to have a realistic
view that is as real as it is in real-life.  LOL all those "real"'s make me
dizzy ;-D

The view is exactly the same as you would have if you sat in one of them WC
cars.  There is other alternatives to this view if you wish to have you
experience a little less realistic.  I really love that hood view, I can see
it's utility for pickup online racing <G>  (and that moving inside-view in
the mirror is a nice touch).

Finally, it would be very difficult to "edit" the N4 view because the
virtual***pit exists within it's own universe.  It's not really in the
game model but in it's own engine-reality.  You could change the view, but
it would totally change the aspect of the***pit, showing parts of the 3d
car polygon shape.  At best you would need a complete 3d edit of the virtual
***pit, unless I'm wrong...

I have the SB setup I listed above and have not had one single problem with
it.  It installed and ran the first day I got it.  I went from an onboard chip
and two measley little speakers to this setup and the first time I floored it
in N4 I thought I was going to wet my pants.  ;o)

Sure.  And if these are not enough for the gamer there is always the classic
Pole Position.  Plenty of arcade view for even the most *** gamer.

The day will come (my guess is within the next five years) that you will wear
a virtual reality helmet with at least 180 degrees of view and might even be
able to sit in a***pit mounted on a motion platform.  This should be enough
to make even the manliest of us all to puke our guts out.  ;o)

Yes but, you're talking about taking a 2D sim and using software to make a
shoddy attempt at 3D.  Wait until the day that the game is written for a
virtual reality helmet.

Real, Shmeal... WC drivers have much more than a 2inch X 12inch window to
look thru!  Our "realistic" fwd view on a std monitor is smaller than their
rear-view mirror.

hear hear. What I would like is an alternativ***pit view where the
windows area of the current***pit view takes a larger part of the
screen. Perhaps also with the GPL letterboxing to reduce the
leg-spotting effect. And a bigger monitor, and a better gfx card, and
a better cpu :) Bonnet view, roof view, kite view is not a good
alternative IMHO.

Very true Dave C, The only issue might be price for the average
consumer? Who knows tho with the good ole microchip it may
be here sooner then we think?..:)

I agree that there is no peripheral vision but any game with a Z or W buffer
is NOT 2D.  It's rendered internally in 3d and then converted for your 2D
monitor.
