ICR2 and Nazareth thoughts

Hello,

Yesterday I was trying to shorten the long wait for Sundays Nazareth CART race with some practice and race laps on that track in ICR2.

It was a long time since last time I played ICR2 because of GPL, and since last time i played it I had also bougth myself a MS FF wheel (for GPL of course). The wheel worked with seperate axis but I hade to map some keys to use the gearpaddles. It's a shame that NASCAR 2 doesn't work with the wheel.

Anyway, I loaded the Ace default setup and went out on the track for some pre-season-testing laps and WOW! This was really intense, and I really had to work to get my laptimes down. I actually think that GPL have improved my ICR2 driving a whole lot, or that the wheel have made things a lot more easy. It was a real blast anyway, and I think that ICR2 have been too underrated lately with all the GPL praising.

Then I tried to race. I started from the back of the field and tried to charge through the field. It was really difficult and I caused a lot of wrecks. Unfortunately some friends of mine came to visit me, so that ended my simulator session for the day.

What I really was trying to say is: Try out Nazareth or some other oval or superspeedway in ICR2 after all those frustrating hours of GPL practice. It is a real blast and it builds confidence.

And one last question: I know there is an option to set a track as a superspeedway to get the small wings. Will this change the handling of the car, so I could try out Nazareth with superspeedway wings like they do in real life this weekend?

Olav,

In the track.txt file for Nazareth look for the line that starts with
"SPDWY". Change the first number from "0" to "1" to get speedway wings.

"SPDWY". Change the first number from "0" to "1" to get speedway wings.<<

But that's only a cosmetic change. To actually reduce the grip you have to edit
the TIRES line, I think.

Try again Robby.... the change is comsmetic and physic!  I think that you have
to change track type to 3 also though....

What TTYPE does is set the pace and caution lap speeds.  I am not sure
it affects the physics.  From the Hacker's Track FAQ
<http://www.teleport.com/~mcarver/trackfaq.htm>

This is the track type and also determines pace lap and caution lap
speed:

0 = Short Oval - 40 mph

1 = Mile Ovals - 55 mph

2 = Speedway - 70 mph

3 = Superspeedway - 90 mph

4 = Road Course - 70 mph and >

On ICR2, the speeds run under caution are the same on EVERY track!  You could
be at Michigan or at Toronto, but the pace car always travels at 80 mph on the
straightaways.
