Interesting, I've tweaked 1 byte for a 'noCD-patch', and my fps on V2
(PII450) are in the 33/34fps range. I'll try the original GPL1.1 exe
then, to see if that works. And perhaps GPL1.0 one more time, just to
get the old feel.
I thought the drop in framerate was caused by moving from GPL1.0 to
1.1.0.3 (mainly in my case I think because of the force feedback,
which for MSFF takes quite some time because it is MIDI).

I have noticed that if I disable FF with my MSFFW in N3, I pick up 3-5 fps.

I am beginning to think using the Midi signal lines was not a smart idea on
Microsoft's part.

I also think it's why the MSFFW is starting to fee sluggish to me.  Like the
front wheel on a Cessna 152-2 and it's bungie system :)
