I'm about to upgrade from an ATI XPERT 98 PCI / VooDoo 2 combo to a VooDoo 3
AGP board.

Is it worth buying the 3000 versus the 2000 and why ?

Also, should I be aware of driver problems encountered by some has I've seen
a few posts about them but did not pay much attention to.  Should I download
drivers from somewhere ?

Thanks in advance.

Robert good choice, I upgraded from the same  setup 3 weeks ago.

You can use the newest drivers 2.56 dated 5/12 from 3 dfx. Also limit texture to
2 mb and it will run fine.

Why limit texture to 2 MB? Is there any significant difference in
performance? What's the limit by default ?

I got the 2000, because I don't need that TV-thingies. If you want the
3000-speed, just overclock to 166MHz, works fine.

Cannot tell you about upgrading from a voodoo2, but upgrading from
Voodoo 1 is worthwhile definitely.

I use the CD-drivers (texture limited to 2MB for GPL). The banshee-fix
gives me problems in GPL (Pic-size) and the 3DFX-update (quake) forces
stutter in MGPRS2

Having got a "2" I looked at the "3" 3000. But there is a 3500 - 40000
just around the corner. Take a look at the Diamond TNT Viper 770 Ultra
AGP. I did and guess what ?.

Its great..............

If you want a great card get the Matrox G400 Max.  It's the best card out
there. Period.

If you want to race GPL, the best choice is any V3 (the 2000 will do fine).
Don't be fooled by the specs suggesting another card may be better or have
more features..
GPL only has decent support for GLIDE and Rendition cards, The V3 is the
fastest GLIDE card. This is the case with nearly every other sim/game out
there and the V3-2000 is great value for money. But of course, if you want to
have the
"best-in-theory-but-isn't-supported-and-therefore-I-have-loads-of-problems-and-ask
other-people-to-help-me-out"-card then you should avoid the V3 ;o)

Um....yes, a Voodoo3 (if you have the CPU for it) probably is the best card
for GPL.  However, there ARE (no fooling) cards with better specs, and more
and better features.

Um, what?!  V3 is not the fastest card for every other sim/game out there.
:?  For those with GLIDE only 3D hardware acceleration, yes.  Those with D3D
or OpenGL support in addition or only, hell no.

"best-in-theory-but-isn't-supported-and-therefore-I-have-loads-of-problems-a
nd-ask

Mms...there are problems with the V3 that have to have worked
around...nothing is prefect. :?
