RASCAR - 8/17

by Eldre » Sun, 18 Aug 2002 13:47:26

Time:4pm eastern
Server: RASCAR - using an invite list of driver IDs who've registered at John's
website.
Track: Michigan
Pit speed limit - 55mph
Pace speed - 65mph
40% distance, fixed setup(fast)
Read the rules here:http://www.racesimcentral.net/
With the exception of the "don't hog the low line" rule, all others are in
effect.  Along with a new rule - no racing back to yellow.  Some drivers seem
to have a problem with that, and a 1-car spin turns into "The Big One".  So if
a yellow flag comes out, ease up and hold station.  Bring your best game,
gents... :-)

Hi,
If I can make it I'll be happy to join.

But my SierraID on John's Website is wrong - should be JLe
I informed him already on racesimcentral.com, but hope you can fix it
already :)

Cu on track

Correct - I forgot that.  I always run with chat enabled, so I never thought of
it.

Gotcha.  That's a good reminder - make sure your driver ID as shown on the
webpage(in parenthases) is correct.  That's what I used to create the invite
list.  Correct means making sure it has the right dashes, underlines, spaces,
etc.

Well, I still think that running the bottom line all the way around is
not sportsmanlike, and I will continue to publicly (and viciously)
ridicule anyone that does it in a RASCAR race.

Are you talking about staying on the bottom even on the straights?  Does
that even work?  If so it seems to me there is a serious flaw in
NR2002's physics.  If that was faster in real life we would see drivers
doing that in real life too, but they don't.

Can you explain what you mean by "running the bottom line" ?

I always try to run the ideal racing line, and in the turns this is the
bottom line.
And for defending the inside when fighting for position; isnt that part of
racing?

So you confuse me when you find that unsportsmanlike.

John...

Just my "two cents".....but the issue of where damaged, down-on-power, or
just slow....race cars run is essentially different for each track (or each
track type).  Running "on the bottom" would be appropriate for places like
Michigan, California for "slow" cars.  Not appropriate at Daytona and
Talladega.  It would also not be appropriate for any of the road
courses....but that becomes a whole separate discussion, really.  In Winston
Cup, this is generally covered in each driver's meeting on race-day morning
(also the minimum speed you must maintain or face a black flag is announced
at the driver's meeting).

RASCAR could do the same, list it with the rest of the driver's meeting info
Eldred posts.  The other possibility for RASCAR, is to adopt a rule that
damaged, or otherwise slow cars should exit the race.  Its not a points
race, so why drive around slow and take chances of interfering with the
other's race?  As I said, this is just my two cents on the matter.

That's preciusely what I mean.  Some folks in pickup races have taken to
hugging the apron for the entire race, asnd this makes it IMPOSSIBLE
(or at least almost impossible) for anyone to pass them.

IMHO, this is NOT what racing is all about.

No it DOESN'T always work.  I've been passed on the outside at Daytona, and the
guy didn't have any problems.  I couldn't do anything to stop him.  Pissed me
off because it cost me my first N# league win.  Grrr...

C'mon guys, use some common sense when you read this stuff.  Read what I
wrote again. It says:

"running the bottom line all the way around is not sportsmanlike"

That means getting on the inside line and staying there all the way
around the track, whether you're passing for position or not.  This is
typically not a problem except on the larger ovals, and is a particular
problem at the superspeedways (Dega and Daytona).

IMHO, this kind of behavior is akin to blocking - it's just plain ***ed
up.
