Nascar 2 rookie question

I know this must seem a dumb question to all you NASCAR 2 players who
actually watch NASCAR races, but I can't find an answer to this in the
European version of the manual, and I haven't worked it out from
playing the game.

The question is simple: what are you supposed to do when shown the
black flag? Is it stop and go (if so where?) How many laps grace do
you get before you must perform the penalty?

The black flag is "report to pits" flag. (usually for a stop and go,
but in real life can be shown for a variety of reasons) In real life,
the number of laps of grace is variable, as NASCAR will generally
listen to an quick appeal of the black flag by the team before
requiring the driver to pit. In our game, there is no appealing a
black flag, so you must report (during green flag racing) within a
couple of laps (3 or 4 I think)

Also in real life NASCAR, if one is caught speeding on the entry to pit
lane they are held in the pit stall for 15 seconds.  In Papy life one
gets a black flag and is forced to honor the penalty under green
conditins.  Something for NASCAR3.

I got bitten by this must be honored under green.  During a race I was
black flagged for passing under yellow, (I was told I still needed to
"race to the yellow").  Anyway, the race was almost over so I was an
idiot and stayed out and was going to come in on the 3rd lap of green.
Well guess what, the yellow dropped on that lap and the race ended under
yellow.  I was DQ'ed for not honoring the black flag.  I and my crew
argued until we were blue in the face.  The Papy Track Officials refused
to budge.  How would this have been handled in real life NASCAR?  I
recall this situation once or twice in the past.  I think they had the
finishing position lowered.  Maybe to the last spot of those on the same
lap.  I can't really recall... Anybody else know the answer?

Something for Papyrus to consider :

The black flag is given for non-violations in NASCAR 2 (not in NASCAR
Racing1).  I have been black flagged for the following :

1> Passing a car under yellow while going into the pits.  Note that it is
impossible to avoid since you cannot see out the side of your car to make
sure you did not pass anyone still on the track.  I also notice that the
cars still on the track yield position to those going into the pits -
causing them to run real slowly - observing the 35 mph pit speed until the
car is completely inside pit lane.  I think real NASCAR rules do allow a
pitting car and the car still on the track to exchange position after the
car peels off to enter the pits - NO ?  Anyway - the situation is almost
impossible to avoid.  I find myself going very slowly into the pits under
yellow to avoid getting a black flag.

2> Leading the race and passing the pace car just after taking the yellow
and then falling back behind it.  Note that about 10 other cars also passed
the pace car and did NOT fall back behind it.  I got the black flag and of
course the AI cars did not.  My crew argued this one - but to no avail.  I
lost positions on the track and I got the black flag all in one deal.

These black flags for non-violations are very annoying - please fix!!

The "real" Winston Cup pacing is administered by humans, not computer
code, but it boils down to: A pitting car may not GAIN positions after
peeling off to pit. A non-pitting car may freely pass a pitting car.
However, it's all admistered by humans who are flexible and can
determine whether an infraction technically exists, but perhaps for
good reason and let it slide, and the Winston Cup drivers know better
than to***around during a caution period.

I think this is how it works in our game: a pitting car may not GAIN
positions (I think you actually can, so long as you give them up
before you are in your pit stall) A non-pitting car may not pass a
pitting car until the pitting car is in pit lane.

How about putting up the F2 standings list?  If you pass someone,
it would show up there and you could slow down and allow them past.

Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) /
