Does N4, GPL, or RT even run on N64?

Sounds like you may have the wrong newsgroup.

Nope, don't think so.

rec.autos.simulators.... hmmmm.... no mention of a platform as far as I can
tell.

Funny, too: no mention of those three in the newsgroup name. Maybe *you* have
the wrong newsgroup, eh?

I can play those on my PC any time I want to.

From the r.a.s. charter :
=================
Welcome to rec.autos.simulators.  This is an unmoderated newsgroup for
discussions of realistic computer simulations of automotive vehicles,
irrespective of the platforms on which the simulations are supported.
This includes simulations which have a competitive component (racing
simulations) and those which do not. Arcade racing simulators, which
give an overhead perspective and which do not attempt to provide realism
of handling of the vehicle, would not be appropriate in this newsgroup,
whilst discussion of Microprose's Formula 1 Grand Prix and Papyrus's
IndyCar Racing would be appropriate. (From the original charter of

================

It's just that all N64 racing games (yeah including the really bad Super
Mario Kart 64 which is so much inferior to it's SNES counterpart) are
arcade-style.  All of them.  It's not our role to judge what is the best
"Arcade racing simulator", because for us any title that is an "Arcade
racing simulator" is inferior to the worst of "Realistic computer
simulation".

It would be better of you to ask in another newsgroup (ex :
rec.games.video.nintendo or alt.games.video.nintendo-64) on how they rate
their own "Arcade racing simulations" because we just ignore them, it's not
what we want.

Your lectures are as tiresome as ever, you pompous ignorant bore.

I asked here because I expected there would be more serious and accurate
replies, yours notwithstanding. Quite frankly I expected more here. Naturally
I also expect the closedminded uniformed responses I'll undoubtedly receive.

I have plenty of sims on my PC. I'm looking to expand my horizons; if you
don't want to, that's your problem. I'll live without your precious guidance,
and whatever flames this completely on-topic post brings.

Change the charter or start some other newsgroups, like it's been suggested
here for years, whiner.

Now save yourself some grief and killfile me if it hurts your neck too much
while tilting your head back to look down your nose.

> Your lectures are as tiresome as ever, you pompous ignorant bore.

LOL what the heck do you want us to answer you?  I wrote that because of the
charter, the nature of this newsgroup is people who discuss racing
simulations that model realistic environments.  There is no title on the N64
console that model realistic environments. (yes, even F1 WGP just make some
deja search about it in this NG it's just an arcade sim like the old F1
series for the PSX)

So gee, I even helped you and pushed you towards newsgroups that would
answer you a much better way then here.  What do you want more?

And we ***y answered you!  If you want racing simulations, don't go
towards the N64 because there is none that are worth it.  Hello? McFly?
It's not like I flamed you, au contraire.

Hmmm, the charter is perfect as it is now and for the past years.  "it's
been suggested here for years"" LOL  stop lying like that, it never
happened.  Why did you just wrote that?  You should YOURSELF change it if
you don't like it.  LOL

Why would I do self-censorship?   Start making sense..

Andrew we are a snobbish lot...with the exception of ThomJ we tend to look
down upon those who drive with their thumbs....Sorry...but that's the way we
are...while you most likely would get a good and honest opinion from users
here IF they had N64's I'd be willing to bet the majority of active ras
posters do not.
  Good luck in your search.

You assume to much.

Which is why I asked here.

Why do you think I posted the links? Or did you ignore them?

How do you know I didn't? Assume, assume, assume.

You have already disqualified yourself to answer accurately.

Lying? You can insult the intelligence of all the people who haven't read this
group as long as I have. Your silly accusation of lying doesn't work on me or
anyone else who has also read this group for years.

I suppose you can honestly say nobody has ever suggested a GPL group? You're
only kidding yourself if that's what you believe, or expect others to.

Uh, I said killfile *me*. Obviously a language barrier thing.

Fran?ois, your response was unexpectedly civil. That said, your
closed-mindedness would be stunning if it weren't for the many people I
encounter unwilling to consider anything but their own opinion, and more than
willing to put words in the mouths of others and issue silly statements such as
the worst of "Realistic computer simulation" < are quite useless.

The reason I asked in this group was because I could get the perspective of
people who know the difference between sims and strictly arcade games; I own
F-1 World Championship and it is certainly not an arcade game. And I do not
steer with my thumbs, as Dave Henrie assumed.

"Arcade racing simulators, which give an overhead perspective and which do not
attempt to provide realism of handling of the vehicle, would not be appropriate
in this newsgroup"

I strongly suggest you go back and read the remainder of the portion of the
charter you posted. Especially the "irrespective of platform" part.

Your broad-stroke approach suggesting there are only arcade-style racers on the
N64 (and Playstation, apparently) is uninformed.

F1 World Grand Prix and F1 World Grand Prix 2 aren't bad at all the control
is a bit dificult with the thum stick but I think they would feel very good
with a wheel, and the graphics were by far the best for an F1 sim in their
day.

I own F1 WGP and a wheel and it's a pretty tough one.

I didn't know there was a sequel, though, if that's what you mean - I'll do a
search.

Thanks!
