Rally Championship Interview

Go to the adress:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
and read a intrview with the creator of Rally championship (rally99).
It looks like they will make it as realistic as possible.
They hve useed good rally-drivers including British Rally Champion Martin
Rowe, Dave and Mark Higgins and Natalie Barratt to work out the physics.
They also used the services of co-drivers Derek Ringer, Clare Mole, and Tony
Mason (from BBC's Top Gear).

It certainly looks promising. Both the realism and the graphic.

Many people has been complaining on the physics in the demos.
But i thing the final version vill be the most realistic driving sim ever
made.

I hope so. So far the demos have not impressed me. But the final demo
will tell all. No excuses then. :)

Wasn't this title supposed to be released late October, like anyday now?

Anyone know if there was a delay or something? Looking forward to it.

Seeyas on the track.

It's done and just been sent out for duplication. Expect it around the
second week of November.

Rally Championship Interview

It is definitely the most realistic racing simulator I've ever experienced.
Completely immersive.

MF had about 15 real life drivers and all of the racing teams contribute to
the development of the physics engine and individual car performance.

During beta testing I heard almost daily comments from real life, very
successful, rally drivers (who had no connections with MF in any way) from
Europe and Australia and they thought RC was amazingly realistic (physics,
graphics, car modeling, track and environment accuracy, sound, etc.) and the
best sim they'd ever tried as well.  They were either beta testing the same
code as myself, or had tried the demos. The ones who tried the demos new
what needed correcting, but didn't know that it had already been corrected,
or was about to be.

Rally Championship Interview

OK, you've played more up to date versions of this game than we have, so can
you say whether the physics model has had a complete overhaul or not? I sent
this mini complaint to a freind of mine who doesn't have the hardware
necessary to try for himself, and I'd like to know if things like this have
been improved upon:

---

Folks who defend the game against the 'GPL crowd' (as we are known - I think
it's meant to imply that we're all snobs who will never be happy with
anything else) put it to us that we have to take into account the fact that
the demo is a fwd Ibiza and of course won't handle the same as a 1967 GP car.
Those people miss the point completely.  The handling model in the demo is
plain bad.  Funny, but I don't remember complaining about the handling of fwd
cars in Gran Turismo...  I want a good rally sim very badly.  RC has cars
that look great, courses that look great, but drives like a f***ing dog.
Example - you tearing down a narrow country lane as, say, 80mph.  You clip a
haybail (just clip, mind you).  Let's do some multiple choice. What should
happen next? a) the car continues on and you hardly notice it. b) the car
continues but only after you've recovered from a hairy moment and you've done
a little wing damage. c) the bail turns out to be solid - as if it's made out
of concrete (think Tommi at last years RAC), and the car gets thrown into an
unrecoverable spin. d) the car stops dead.  80 - 0 in 0.0 secs.

a), b) and to a lesser extent c) are acceptable but d) is what we get.  Hey,
I'm no physicist, but come on... etc

---

Don't get me wrong, I'm not flaming you, I just have a genuine question.  All
I've seen are vague "stop complaining about beta code" comments rather than
any hint as to what has -actually- improved.  Saying that a bunch of rally
drivers have driven it and reported good things means nothing to me.  For all
I know, their 'virtual' racing experience may only be about as extensive as
Pole Position or Out Run and by those standards of course RC is going to come
across as ultra realistic.

I will be mighty pissed off if, after all these boasts of ultra-realism, we
have another lame Europress rally title.  Unfounded claims of realism
seriously bug me.  I want RC to be all the developers claim it to be, I
really do.  I can't wait to get hold of a decent rally -simulation-

Tell me that there'll be a demo featuring the driving model we'll get in the
final product, because on the strength of what I've played (don't get mad at
me jusdging a beta - that's all I've got), I'll be waiting a good while yet
for the simulation I want.

Cheers

You're really setting yourself up here ... better than GPL? :)
