3D Blaster Video Lock Up / Nascar 2

Since I've upgraded to the latest Nascar2 Patch, my screen locks up
every 10 minutes or so in multiplayer mode over the modem.  I have a
Creative 3D Blaster video card with 4 Mb.  I noticed now that it does
not load a universal vesa driver at startup, and uvconfig does not
correctly detect my board.  Any pointers?
