Direct Connect - Do U Need 2 games

I've been trying to get the direct connect working with my two
machines and it just doesn't go.  If I start the game on machine 1,
then change CD to machine 2, all start ok but the game doesn't
connect.  It says "Linking" on the Lead machine and "Waiting" on the
Follow machine, but they never connect.  I got the two PC"s talking
with PC Anywhere, so I assume I've got the comm ports and cables OK.

Any ideas?

Tanks,
Larry

Don't use PC Anywhere! Just plug the nulmodemcable between both computers and
connect. You'll need to swap the CD from system 1 to system 2 and the other
way a couple of times but eventually you will connect. I tried it with only
one cd and it worked. Though it's much easier with two of course. I tried so I
know! :)

Why not just do a FULL install on each system, then CD is not needed.
Haven't put my CD in my computer for a couple months 'cept to listen to
the music tracks every once in awhile.

I didn't mean to imply I tried running GP2 with PC Anywhere, only that
I know the comm ports and cables worked OK with PC/A.  Good to hear
you've made it work, though I don't know why mine isn't working.  I
have the cable connected, start both with GP2, by swapping the CD, and
they don't want to talk.  One PC is really slow, running VGA, do you
think that is screwing things up?

Thanks for your thoughts.

[major snippage]

Possibly. When you adjust frame rate during a direct connect, the game
tells you that settings are for both machines right now. It might well
be that you have to have the same resolution on both computers. Try
running the game in VGA with low frame rate on both machines.

Other things:
1) Maybe the mouse is interfering?
2) Is your null modem cable a 'real' one? Some of the cheaper cables
do not feature all leads, i.e. some pins anre not connected. While
this may work with PC Anywhere (I don't know that prog), it may well
not work with GP2.
3) Try different speed settings, but I guess you've done that.
4) If the slow machine does not have a 16550 UART, do not use
"use16550" on any of the two.

Hope this helps,
