Direct connect probs w/original Need For Speed

by Gary Garbe » Sat, 01 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I know Need for Speed I (the original 1995 version) is quite old, and
there are now two versions since then, nonetheless, I have what will
hopefully be an easy question for you "experts".

I've successfully connected my desktop P166 and my laptop P133 via null
modem cable and can direct connect each PC.  I've verified that we can
"chat" and I see the telephone-like icon in Control Central.

However, come race time - either head-to-head or single race, after I
see synchronizing.... synchronized.... one machine will proceed to the
starting gate, and the other machine freezes (just hangs - not even soft
bootable). Any ideas?

Thx ahead of time,
Gary

Umm.  Try running each machine in low res mode (320x???).
Another tip is to change who is the host (after setting to low res mode :).

I haven't touch the Original for awhile, but I have played the NFS-SE
version and don't remember any problems.

One more tip, do not run the game from Windows.
Boot into DOS mode ( Press F8 when you see "Starting Windows 95...")

Jason.
