I have been running GP2 between a P6/200 32megs and a P5/133
16megs for three days, at 57600 and 1 bar of detail on, on
both machines, and the frame rate is very good. We have run
quick races, testing on many tracks, and 60% races.

The only time the frame rate slowed down on us was when one
of the user cars was stuck in the dirt and even then the other
car did not lose any control at all, it just lagged for a brief
period of time.
I would suggest that you check your port speed settings, for
one idea, and perhaps re-assess the graphic detail.

Try having the faster machine "lead" and if necessary lower
the graphic to a minimum on the slower machine. You will still
get a great deal of detail even at the lower settings and I
am speaking of SVGA.

We have almost 24 hours of direct connect in the last 3 days
to compare with your experience. I don't doubt what you say,
I only point out that your experience is surely NOT rooted
in the game. If it were, how can you explain our great
success at the same exercise.

It is MORE than well worth the effort to tune the settings
in my view.

I hope you will take a second look at this problem as the
direct connect is a lot of fun.

PS We also have almost 12 hours of Modem play at 19200 between
a P6 and a P5/133 with the same results...Very good to great
at times.

Sadly i must say after playing "F1GP2" in link mode, it's
a disaster.... the framerates slowing down considerably.
And the game can suddenly STOPS for a second ,anyone know why?

Heres the computers linked up.

JEP, a big disaster....
The stops can some times be removed, by changing the baud-rate. Try
19200. I dont think you can blame the game in that direction, it might
be the connection. (Even though its a direct link)
The drop in framerate... Blame that on the game. Like GP1, you need
approx twice the power to run a linked game. Make the graphic setting,
so that you get 50-60% occupancy on a single mashine, then link the
game, and it will run just fine.. But the graphics... GONE...

... and even without any graphics and sound !!!!

we played on a P100 and P120 ...

any patch coming Mr Microprose ?
