I have Power F1 and it is a very fast and quick reacting formula 1 game.
When you race against the AI cars, if you hit one of them from behind,
they bounce themselves right off the track, and my car almost completely
stops. As you try to pass a car on the straightaways, the AI car kinda
jerks or hesitates around but doesnt get in your way at all. So racing
AI cars is not quite realistic like GP2. Once you get used to what they
do you can race with them. Normally my car is faster on the straights,
but they are faster in the corners.
The tracks are somewhat different than GP2 in design. Not sure how
realistic they are, but are fun to drive. Qualifying, you have to know
the tracks before you can qualify at the top even though I turn faster
times here than in GP2. Monoco has a faster frame rate than GP2. There
is an easy mode where you race against 12 cars, and a medium, hard mode
where you can race against 12 or 24 cars. Pitting is automatic, once you
enter the pits the autopilot takes over and you go to your stall. Soon
as the pit crew rasies his hands, you hit the gear shift on your
contoller and the autopilot takes you out of the pits up to the exit to
the track, you then take over. Kinda mickey mouse, but I guess they want
you to concentrate on racing the track. Remember its an arcade game.
I run in SVGA mode and when in the***pit view it is hard to see the
cormers coming up sometimes(detail blends in with corners sometimes).
There is a help arrow to tell you what direction the curve is which
helps. Of course like any other racing game once you know the tracks,
its all instinct and picking out landmarks for braking. There are alot
of help features like in GP2 to get used to tracks.
Saving settings, I think there are 8-10 slots to save general car
settings to be used on any track, you cant save a setting per track like
GP2. Settings of the cars are just general settings like wings, tire
pressures, fuel, etc. This game wasnt meant to be a full blown
simulator.
The multiplayer I found out from the Vendor that the IPX only works with
a local LAN between PCs. You cant run this on KALI at this time. I
havent tried modem play because no one else has the game in my area.
Thats about all I can think of at the moment, a GP2 it is not, but if
you want some fast speeds and Formula 1 arcade action it is. I use a TSW
wheel controller, and I find the car handling acceptable with a little
tweaking of the car parameters. Driving with the other cars is another
story as mentioned above.
This is my opinion,
