Actually just one year and it's still the best...

coming soon - F1-2000 / GP3
WE NEED A NEW CART SIM DAMN IT!!
But be warned, GPL requires serious effort to master so it can be very
frustrating early on. With liberal quantities of time, energy and talent
applied, the rewards are substantial.
This doesn't mean other sims aren't fun to play but they are all pretenders to
the throne....for now.

At the exception of Grand Prix Legends, of course, which is the actual
reference for the last year in terms of racing simulators.

Get GPL and then when F1 2000 comes out the end of this month watch this
group for feedback. Do the same for GP3 when it comes out late this
year (if they even make that projected date).
Until we get our hot little hands and heavy feet on F1 2000 & GP3, GPL
rules the roost.....

Two months ago I would of suggested GPL to the originator of this thread,
but not now with F12000 coming very soon, and GP3 just a few months away. He
DID say, "its (GPL) a couple of years old. Is there not any worthy newer
open-wheel sims? Now or to be released soon?"
With the following recently released or on their way soon, I find it hard to
recommend a sim to him that's a year and a half old: F12000, RC2000, WSC,
Superbikes2000, Dirt Track Racing, Leadfoot, NFS5, and CM2.
If you read his post again, he already knows about GPL but sounds like he's
looking for a sim based on modern cars, that is newer than GPL.

What amuses me is that the ONLY people who ever complain at me about
anything I say regarding sims are the GPL fanatics. Very sensitive group.
Especially considering the fact that I think (and have said many, many
times) that GPL is an excellent sim. I just don't get misty eyed over it's
physics code, or have dillusions that if I master it, it means that I can
crush Schumacher if given the chance.

If you want CART then the best is a 4 yr old sim called Indycar Racing II from
Papyrus, the same makers as GPL. The problem is it isn't readily available
anymore, but if you can find it then you can get current cars. For info on that
sim go to

For more open wheel stuff

And sim racing yadda yadda

For F1 the best is GP2

And what will be the best current F1 sim,

You should check out this too...

It's a shame that TRI and MS parted ways because I have no doubt that a CPR2
could of been excellent.
MTM2 is a brilliant arcade/sim racer and if you look at all of TRI's titles,
it's obvious they are a very, very talented group of people.

But of course, if we go with your theory, you find it hard to recommend MTM2
since it's older than GPL, no? ;-)
