Rusty left-foot brakes!

     Just tuned on to the NASCAR Phoenix race today
while flipping channels.  Showed a closeup of Rusty
Wallace's feet and how he uses the pedals-what
amazed me is that he uses his left foot to brake!
    I wonder how many other NASCAR drivers do that.
I know it has been a controversy here-in N4 I certainly
left-foot brake even tho in my 'real' car I use my right.
Too bad the various networks don't give us more of this
kind of 'inside' info and instead give us endless streams
of meaningless platitudes...

Interesting, because he also has the qualifying records at the series'
only two road courses.  Perhaps there's a connection?

From the foot-cam's I've seen, most Nascar drivers left foot brake.

My guess is that every WC driver left foot brakes, with the exception
of road circuits. I grew up left footed braking in my street car, and
it's saved me from many accidents from the quicker reaction time to
the brake pedal.

Yeah...if we have to go to the NBC Virtual Garage one time I'm gonna
puick.

I think 99.9% of all NASCAR drivers probably left foot brake except for Kevin
Harvick. He just uses the car in front of him to slow himself down. :)

  It's fairly common for the road tracks for the WC drivers to pump up the
brakes while going down the straights.  So while they floor the gas they are
tapping the brakes to build up the hydraulic pressure for the hard work at
the end of the straight.

  Yep.  It's not really needed mechanically as much as thought though;
several have stated it's just a "reassurance" type mind game more than
anything, which is understandable; I'd want to make sure I had brakes going
into a corner at speed too<G>

Hmmm, why would you think that WC drivers don't brake with their left foot
on road courses?

Yep, bobby Labonte right foot brakes and probably Kyle Petty as well since
he heel toe's his downshifts on road courses. That is a reason why Bobby
Labonte gets so good fuel mileage, he is on the gas less compared to left
foot brakers. Tony Stewart said he has never right foot braked since he was
taught to left foot brake right from the beginning in go-carts and sprint
cars.

A challenge to a lot of cup and F1 drivers would be to make them double
clutch a downshift. I would bet they mess it up.

I really hope WSC will have an option to force people to heel toe/double
clutch downshifts on older cars during online races.
