Nascar 99 - What a Disappointment!

by Adam » Tue, 16 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I've had been waiting a long time and was very e***d about the latest
Nascar release - Nascar Racing 99.

Unfortunately, from what I have seen in the demo, it looks like absolute
tosh!

It appears to be using the same engine as Nascar Racing 2, which was very
good AT THE TIME, and sure there are new cars and tracks, but the game
itself, and even the layout of the whole system, looks just like it did
before.

This isn't to say it's a bad game, and who knows, I might even end up buying
it (although I doubt it will be for quite a while), I'm just very
disapointed, in that, when compared with games like Grand Prix Legends, it
really doesn't seem to have any power behind it.

Never mind, at least I have Nascar 3 to look forward to. :-)

The 3dfx implementation in NR1999 is *WAY* better than the patch
for N2...

it was worth the $40 in my opinion, great new tracks and improved graphics
although it being the same physics engine.

Actually, I question whether we would have ever seen NR1999 if Nascar 3
was even close to being on time.

I really feel that N1999 was a "keep em' busy, we need development
funds" release :(

It's ok.  It just should have never been.

> NASCAR Racing 1999 IS NASCAR 2's engine.  That was the original idea.  If

you were lucky enough to pick it up immediately you could have gotten it
for free.  Which is what I did.  Worth every cent of the 7% sales tax!

This is certainly true!

Hey, can someone re-post those instructions for editing the ini file to
make it work better with V2 12MB cards?

Thanks!

What are you talking about? I have a P2-450 with a CL 12MB
voodoo2 card. I certainly didn't have to edit or change any ini
file to get the game running good.

I'm talking about the mod that was posted to be added to a file that
improved greatly the performance of the VooDoo 2 performance.

I believe it allocated more memory to the game from the card.

|Well the problem is now solved on my system. Thanks to some good

|N2FXAA      2
|N2FXLOAD=0X200000
|
|These setting are for my 8mb Voodoo2 card. Higher mb cards will

Also, fog can be added with the following variables:

SET N2FXFOG=0.005
SET N2FXFOGCOLOR=0xa8a8a8

which originally were used in N2 with the 3dfx beta patch.
