CPR: Racing School doesn't work

by Kevin Virgi » Wed, 19 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I just purchased CPR and the Racing school, track info, and driver info
options don't work.   When I click on one of these options, the "sheet"
screen comes up and some or all of the options on the left side of the
screen show up, but when I try to click anywhere, the system just beeps.
At this point, I have to hit alt-f4 to get out or do a hard reboot.
Sometimes I get an access violation (error code C0000005).  I have a
Pentium 133, Sound Blaster 16, Matrox Mystique (2MB), and Canopus Pure 3D,
all with the latest drivers.  I also have Direct X 5.0 installed.
Everything else in the game appears to be ok.  I tried this with my desktop
at 1024x768 (64K colors) and at 640x480 (256 colors), and neither worked.
I also tried changing my desktop font size to small from large, and this
didn't help.

Also,  my desktop icons get rearranged into a 640x480 footprint when I get
out of the game sometimes.  This also happened frequently in the demo.
Usually when this happens, I'll see my desktop flash up (in 640x480)
between menus while in the game.  Sometimes my desktop is fine after
exiting the game, but the icons get screwed up after rebooting.  I don't
have the auto-arrange option checked.

What web browser do you use?  I used Netscape until I found out cpr uses
internet explorer, but not the one that comes on the msn disk.  The cpr
disk actually has it.   It does this because  the info files are html
and since it is microsoft for some reason it all makes sense.

I have IE 3.02.  Does the game require 4.0 for the Racing School and track
info sheets?

IE 3.02 should be work fine Kevin.  That is the version of the browser we
include on the CD. Assuming you're not running any pre-release versions of
the operating system, we're not familar with the problems you're seeing. One
thing you can try is accessing the pages directly from your browser. Try
this:

1) Start your browser
2) open the html page off the CD directly. For example, if your CD is on
drive G:, then open G:\HTML\SCHOOL\3SCHOOL.HM

Assuming this works, it means that the browser is somehow not getting
launched properly on your system when CART trys to start it, possibly some
bad registry settings. If this is the case, I suggest you try uninstalling
the browser and reinstalling it.

Thanks, I tried this and I got the same errors.  So, I installed IE 4.0, and
everything works great now!
