Ages ago i played a Playstation game called 'Speedster', this was an
overhead arcade-style racer, but not 2D - rather the objects were 3D but
viewed from a very, very long way away. Thing is, i've something like this
very similar on the pc and i can't remember what it's called or where i can
get a copy. I'm guessing the game was maybe 'Public Domain' or Shareware or
something because it didn't seem to be a big commercial release. I'm
guessing since you all follow these sort of releases closely (mods, new
games and the like) and, although i know it isn't a sim, you might have
encounterd it.

I don't know what it is, but if it's an older game, try
http://www.abandongames.com and take a look around

Or you might try Googling for "abandonware."

Good luck!

I think Micro Machines v3 was actually 3D, but had a 2D-style top-down look
and feel... although I guess if the game you remember had involved driving
around on breakfast tables and pool tables, you would probably have
mentioned it... :)

Could you be thinking of Ignition? That was a top-down but 3D racing game
(and a hell of a lot of fun, too).

<snip>

There was a top-down PC game called Speedster about four years ago, I
think - I remember playing a demo on a mag cover CD. It wasn't
particularly good, but passed the time for a while. Definitely
commercial rather than shareware, but I don't think I ever saw it in
the shops.
