Hi again,
Can anyone point me in the direction of some Eagle setups? I've been looking
and its like a wild goose chase.

Any ideas?
TIA.

Hey, why not try tuning your own setups?

speaking from experience.....

With the mayhem seen in open races, the less building of own setups the
better.   i've found (owned gpl since release date) that if i take the time to
try building setups my driving suffers.

My advice to anyone even remotely new to GPL, download setups and learn to
drive.

Some sort of interactive race car setup tutorial software, that's what I
need.

Any programmers out there ;-?

There have been books about how to set-up racing cars, and they are
interactive (you have to turn the pages anyway :-) )
I have no objections to people downloading setups, don't get me wrong, but
I'm suggesting that there is a great deal of satisfaction to be had from
creating your own. The trouble with other people's setups are that they
weren't neccessarily designed for the way I drive, and they feel odd. Now,
imagine this happens to you, and the new setup you d/l feels terrible, what
to do? Go look for more setups, or start adjusting until you're comfortable
with the car's handling, in which case, where do you start? If you've taken
the tme to learn how to setup your own car, this'll be a lot easier, because
you know what your doing, and you'll spend more time "getting to know" the
car, and less time searching the web.
I recommend newbies stick to the default setups, minus some fuel, until they
feel they can drive consistently and relatively comfortably, and then learn
what does what, before changing any other setup parameters.

That's all well and good.  You have an edge on me.  I've read books,
suggestions, etc.  I have NO setup skill, so I'm at the mercy of 'lucking up'
and finding a setup that suits my driving style.  It might as well be
calculus... :)

Absolutely download GRE from Alison's site Eldred.
That Help file is very clear how to setup a car in GPL, even I
understood it...

Welcome back Eldred! The major obstacles to creating a good setup is gaining
an understanding of:
1. How each setup parameter will/should affect the car
2. How each part of the setup affects (or not) other things
3. The relative 'severity' of a particular change.

You then need to be comfortable with the car, so that, if your car
understeers, you will know whether it is because of the setup, or because of
bad technique.
If you use toe-in as an example: negative toe-in at the front *should* give
the car more bite when turning in, but, too much negative toe can produce
instability, and may affect your braking, so it could mean changes to other
parts of the setup to counter this.
However, you need to make a big change in the toe angle for a relatively
small change in steering performance, and a small change in front wheel
rate, or rake angle, could produce the desired effects instead.

That's just it - I have that dilema now.  I don't know if the setups are
causing me trouble, or if I'm just THAT BAD of a driver.  Probably the
latter... :)
