I just got in from the Long Beach Grand Prix, Friday practice and
qualifying, and I thought some of you might be interested in what I saw. They
have taken the entire Long Beach Arena and turned it into what they call
Digital Thunder.Lots of simulators, computer software and the like. Microsoft
had a strong presence with CPR playing on a couple of nice seat, wheel and
pedal rigs. They were giving away huge piles of $20.00 off coupons.Strange that
they didn't seem to have any games for sale. The techs hadn't heard of the
glide dll file that's out now.
I had a very interesting chat with Alan Smith from Thrustmaster. They had
two very cool roll cage/frame rigs with NASCAR Pro Wheels and pedals and of
course, CPR was running. These are prototypes for a simulator series to be
conducted in partnership with Toyota. These things were attracting a LOT of
attention! Alan gave the impression that Thrustmaster will be ready to launch
some exciting new racing wheel controllers in the not-too-distant future. He
also told me of a new bungee material on the way soon that lasts 4 to 5 times
longer in testing. Keep an eye on the Thrustmaster web site.
BTW the on track action was excellent! Team Rahal has the front row, much to
the delight of the crowds. It's only provisional, but Bobby has to be happy
after going ass over teakettle last weekend.
Off to soak my aching feet and then run some laps in ICR2 at the Beach!
