There are people who have driven sims literally for YEARS, and we're no closer
to figuring out setups now than when we started(even with the guides).  Should
we just be left out to dry?  Since you apparently understand all the
ramifications of setup subtleties, you can't see the point of view from those
that don't.  Just like the fast drivers can't understand what it's like at the
back of the grid.  It's an elitist view...

Should we not be able to download others' setups, as well?  First, it's
possible to find someone's setups that work for you without knowing why.
Second, I know of some VERY good sim drivers who don't have a CLUE about
setups.  They find one that works for them and kick everyone else's ass...
Third, I don't think that REAL drivers know how to tweak the car for maximum
benefit(um, that's why they have a crew chief).  If *they* can't, why should
*we* be expected to?

The better drivers usually win anyway, so what's wrong with giving people who
aren't good at setups a CHANCE?

When the point of view is "everyone should do it my way or not play the
games" then we're talking about something completely worthless.  Tom may
have a point or two occasionally, but expecting everyone to want things
his way is not one of them.

<snip>

Good idea, i've been saying it for years :)

The one thing that put me off contemporary F1 sims is that the setup
options are too overwhelming. Not even real life drivers have to cope
with all that, but they have to give a lot of feedback to the
engineers.

Also during race situations, like N2002 and even back to the first
indycar sims there are too many decisions that has to be made about
fuel, tires, sway bars etc. And all this input has to be done with the
keyboard while racing. I find that very unrealistic. A
semi-intelligent crew chief that let me in for a splash and dash
without filling up the tank completely when needed would be more like
it. Hell, even a crew chief to tell me when to pit would be great. :)

Of course, all the options must be avaliable manually aswell for the
***s :)

Well you are entitled to your opinion, but I think that you are taking
Tom the wrong way.  He is just expressing his opinion, which he
apparently feels very strongly about.  I have a great deal of respect
for people who are able to form strong opinions and are not afraid to
speak their mind.  In fact, I can't stand people who always agree with
everybody else.  Being rather opinionated myself, I will, after
listening to others, still make my own decisions and still do whatever
the hell I think is right.  Nobody can force you to do something you
don't want to do (unless you're a total doormat), but everybody still
has a right to express themselves.
