GPL Magazine Adverts?

by bernie eccl » Sun, 04 Feb 2001 09:08:21

I remember sometime ago a discussion regarding the original advertising of
GPL.  It went along the lines of :-
"In 1968, they changed the rules to make the cars safer.  Welcome to 1967."
or something like that.

I've tried a deja search and couldn't find any working links. Does anybody
have a link for a site that might have scans of the adverts?

Thanks

Stewart

Couldn't find that one either -- but I did find a site with a lot of old GPL
stuff, including the first-ever pic of GPL from PCGamer magazine:
http://webhome.idirect.com/~drbryan/gpl . Also a great 2-page ad for GPL
with Graham Hill & his son Damon Hill. Damon is saying "Dad I want to race".
The next page says "Not till October '98 Damon..." with Damon looking all
sad! Great!

They're under the "ScreenShots" link on the left side -- think they were
about 2 or 3 screens in. Also look for the various GPL Box art pictures that
show the different cover-art concepts for GPL.

Great site - i think I remember it being one of the first GPL sites around.
Last updated December '98 though. Anyone know what happened to DoktorB?

He's probably out trying to break 8:30 at the Ring.  Kind of a "Flying
Dutchman" of the GPL world.  :-)

Yes, I was about to suggest that. A two-page spread with the "Welcome to 1967"
thingy. If I had a scanner I'd put it up for you somewhere, but, alas...

I would love to see that add.  If you ever do get a scanner keep me in mind
:-)

Thanks

Stewart
