Just got the new issue of Motor Sport, and noticed that they are now
giving away a free copy of GPL with every 12-month subscription :-)

Also it was mentioned in the editorial again, saying they were "dazzled
by the response received to various mentions of GPL"

There's life in it yet :-)

Sounds like Papy is getting a little creative with it's marketing! I like
it! Hopefully we'll get more VROC racers out of this deal!

We should get one of our more eloquent members here to write a letter to the
editor of Motor Sport with some hints for the GPL newcomers, point them
towards Alison, VROC, the patches, etc.

You beat me to it Don.
An editorial in the mag would be even better. Maybe if collectively we
generated enough feedback they might consider an editorial  dedicated to the
GPL online world. This could incorporate the VROC scene and how it works,
the main players (Backroom boys and gal as well as the track heroes), the
main websites and maybe a how to section as well.

Food for thought.........

What the magazine guys need to see is a well edited bit of gpl racing video,
that would get them talking.

From past experience (not just with MotorSport) I think that your chances
would be next to zero. It is nearly impossible to have an article (as
opposed to a letter) published, within a reasonable time-frame, that has not
been "invited".
Specialist magazines are absolutely inundated with requests for articles and
are bombarded by prospective authors, each with their own special interest.
I know from experience just how ***y frustrating it can be in getting
something that one is keen about into print.

But don't let me act as a wet rag..........send an article in and keep your
fingers crossed.

Phil Le

In the issue of Motorsport with the Eagle and Lotus 49 on the cover (Feb
2000 I think) the following was included in the editorial:

"Following my mention of the Grand Prix Legends computer game, we have been
swamped by letters about it.  Now I know the depth of feeling, I feel it was
remiss of me not to mention it sooner. For those of you who don't know, GPL
is a game based around the 1967 world championship where you get to drive
all the cars on all the tracks visited that year save Le Mans which wouldn't
play ball so Rouen was included instead.

The bad news is you need a reasonably powerful PC to make it work properly
and without a steering wheel and pedals it is a waste of money.  properly
equipped however, it is the most thoroughly researched, brilliantly
conceived and thrilling PC game I have ever played.  Your set-up options are
limitless, your room for improvement without bounds.  Best of all, you can
piggy-back on Jim Clark's Lotus 49 and see how it really should be done."

It looks like we have a well positioned fan of GPL who could promote the sim
to the right target audience.  I think the ideas of a short article or
letter pointing people to all right web sites and this NG would be a
worthwhile effort.

Cheers

Phil

Its a Brit racing magazine, and a darn fine one.  Founded in 1924 and their
historical racing articles are marvelous, possibly because they have been
around to witness most of it.  I pick my copies up for 7.50 $US at a very
large Barnes and Noble bookstore.  It usually takes a couple weeks into the
month to get the latest issue since they're imported.

I don't know if they have a web page- otherwise I'd post the site.

England, Brett.
It is considered amongst the very best of historically-biased motor-racing
publications and is really a "must" for any follower of same.
