Never saw any of those specific problems testing (except for the
result coordination problems, there was a bit of that in testing). I
did have problems connecting to TCP games, it seemed more stable to
play via the Zone - did you try that?

You must remember, as I'm sure you do, that playing over the internet is
very unpredictable.  One day you'll have a great connection, and the next
nothing will seem to work.

Overall, you need to try MTM2's multiplayer for a week or so and with
different people before you make such sweeping generalizations about the
viability of multiplay.

I did the same with MSGolf 98.  But after a while I began to find players
with whom I could connect and play at least three player games without
incident.  I still believe the MSGolf 98's netplay needs work, but it isn't
as bad as I had initially thought.

No one is eager to criticize their own ISP and say that the problem with
this or that game's multiplay is not with the game itself but with his or
her  own dismal connection.  Maybe that's the problem you have?

All I'm asking is that you give MTM2 Trial a few more multiplayer go-rounds
before you come to some firm statement about its multiplayer capabilities.

Thanks,

Alanb

Early beta versions of MTM2 had multiplayer sync issues.

These were addressed in the final released version (build 2.00.41 MMX).

Anyone using an earlier version, or trying to mix version numbers in a
multiplayer game, will have unpredictable multiplayer results, including
lag, warping and non-sync times.

Everyone running 2.00.41 MMX (retail) will have optimal multiplayer
experience, which after hundreds of hours of testing of the release version,
appears to be extremely robust.

If you have strange multiplayer experiences, check your version # (and those
of your opponents). Everyone must have 2.00.41 MMX for the game to work
properly.

I  beta tested MTM2 for the past 3 months and have had hundreds of
multi-player races. The Zone, TCP/IP races are excellent in MTM2. Best I've
seen so far. Another component of this racing game that's been done so well.
I've had races with people from Hawaii, all over the U.S., and
Europe in the same race and it worked very well even though I had bad
latency with some of them. I just had a dozen races with two guys from
England and Germany. I'm in Southern NJ and while I had bad latency with
them the races were still extremely smooth and warp free and the results
were accurate in each one. If you are combining versions then that may be
the problem. I suspect that some of warez titles floating around aren't
working properly also (not saying that's what you or your friends are using
though. :-)  I have no idea.). One thing I noticed is in people's eagerness
to race they tend to completely ignore the latency indicators when joining
races. You are supposed to race people with green or yellow only for good
performance but like I said, I've still had many, many races with bad
latency and the results were excellent.
