Why no savegame feature???

Most people in this group will explain to you that the reason
that GPL doesn't have a saved game feature to save a part race
is because Jim Clark didn't have that option.  This I agree with
but unlike Clark we also have other distractions such as people
coming to visit or the poeple we live with or other things we
have to do.

Sometimes it's not easy to find 2 hours free time for a whole GP.

What does annoy me is the way some people save a GP2 race every
other corner and if they make a mistake load the previous saved
game.

What I would like to see would be a feature that allows you to
save a game mid-race should you be interrupted but once you load
that saved game again you can't then go back to it again.  This
would mean that wherever you paused the game you could save it
and rejoin at that point later. You couldn't go back to an
earlier saved point in the race though.

This system would satisfy most people I think.

I think what people do with their saved games is their business. If
they want to use it to cheat then that's up to them. I guess if you
are doing hotlapping and posting the results on the net then it would
alollow you to cheat against other players though, so I do see your
point. But, the lack of being able to save completely is criminal. I
thought past Papyrus sims had a save feature so why not GPL? Or is my
memory wrong on that?

Well if you allow people to keep reloading saved games then you
will get ridiculous results.  I used to be in a GP2 league where
we would use the multiplayer option where the computer would
race while one human drove.  Well I was about 40 seconds ahaed
at Monaco with 12 or so laps to go before I sent it on to my
competitor.  He made up those 40 seconds, though he didn't pass
me, and admitted to reloading the game at least a dozen times.

With GPL hotlaps we know it hasn't been saved at every turn and
relaoded if a mistake is amde at the next turn.  This adds
credibility to the GPL hotlaps as we know they are "ONE" lap.
Like I mentioned as sim racers we have outside distractions and
I believe we should be able to save a race at any point.  Though
when we resume that race we should not be able to go back to
that point again.

Wouldn't it make sense to be able to save the race, but only in the pits?
That would overcome the problem of piecing together a lap one corner at a
time.  It might not be workable on longer tracks like the Nring though.  If
that's considered a problem, allow the user to save at any point but only
save complete laps.  When the save is restored, the player starts from the
pits and all other cars are placed where they were relative to the player
when the player last crossed the start-finish line.

No, they probably couldn't. So there is *no* reason not to include a
save feature that I can see.

Just want to point out that this was never possible with GP2 hotlaps
either. You can only save a lap if it was driven in one piece.

Races is another thing... Was possible at first, but any serious
league can now use GP2LAP to prevent it.
