LWFF and N2002?

by Jon Wille » Thu, 28 Feb 2002 10:41:44

Anyone using a Logitech Wingman Formula Force (USB) with NASCAR Racing
2002 (full or demo)?

N2002 1.0.0.1 will not calibrate it or assign controls to it.  It
works fine in every other game I've tried (NASCAR Racing 4 1.3.0.6,
Grand Prix Legends 1.2, Porsche Unleashed, and NASCAR Heat).  I've
tried generic, DirectInput, split-axis, combined, controller ID 1 and
2--no joy.

System specs.:

  Windows 98
  1 GHz Athlon C
  MSI K7T Turbo-R (Via KT133A)
  512 MB CL3 PC133
  GeForce2 Pro (64 MB)
  Diamond MX300 (Aureal Vortex2)

I have the latest drivers installed: Logitech Wingman 4.11, DirectX
8.1, NVIDIA Detonator XP 23.11, Aureal 2048.

I've put in a support request at sierra.com, but I haven't heard
anything, yet.

Yes, I am.  In fact, I'm using it in conjunction with TSW pedals.  OS is
Win98SE and the LWFF drivers (I believe ) are 3.62.  Direct X 8.1a.  I
have it on ID#1. Set for split-axis.

Not sure what your problem is but could it be that you haven't gone to the
second controller config screen in NR2002?  There's a little right-facing
arrow at the bottom of the calibration screen that flips you to a 2nd
screen with more axes.  Just a thought.....

With just the LWFF, there is no arrow on the calibration screen.  If I
hook up the X36 USB joystick, there are two more pages.  The game
recognizes the stick, so the problem seems to be specific to the
wheel.

I had 3.62 when I started.  I upgraded to 4.11 in hopes of fixing this
problem.

I'm runnig the LWFF with the 4.11 software with no issues. since you did say
that you have a 2nd controller is the LWFF on id 1 or 2? if its on 2 you may
want to try moving it to 1.

Hi Jon,

works fine here under WinME + DX8.1, Geforce drivers 23.10.

If you have an analog joystick, you could perhaps try and see if that other
stick works. It doesn't sound very likely that this has anything to do with
it, but have you tried it with 3d-sound on and off? Who knows how
applications, drivers and their resource management interact these days.

My LWFF is BTW combined with CH Pro Pedals (using the same cable, not as two
joysticks), split-axis.

I'm happy to report that the 1.1.0.1 patch fixed this problem.  Ten
races into the NWC season, I can finally play the game.

Initially, I had just the wheel installed, so there was no second
page.  When I added a joystick, it would calibrate, but not the wheel.

Make sure you are using the Direct X calibration routine and then look
for the green arrow => pointing to the right at the bottom of the window
that displays the axis'.  clik on that, then you should see more axis
displayed and you can calibrate your pedals...don't forget to go back to the
main calibration screen <= and calibrate your wheel.
