TOCA realism question

by Harald van Sante » Sat, 23 May 1998 04:00:00

Has anybody amongst you noticed that there are quite a few unrealistic
effects in the TOCA game (I know, it's not a sim) For example the spin
behaviour of the cars is often very unrealistic. A friend of mine who races
touring cars (albeit small ones, Renault Clio and the likes) has played the
TOCA game on my machine a few times and was amazed of the sometimes opposite
to real reaction of the cars to corrective steering etc. Especially the
transition between grass and tarmac is terrible. Then there is the question
of how it is possible the the cars slow down so dramatically when they get
on the grass. In real life, if the driver keeps his foot down, the slowdown
will be very little, and the car will be much more controllable.

Besides those remarks it is a very fun game to play, throwing around
touringcars, great graphics, and great sounds, especially with "in the
***pit" view. i'll keep playing it I think.

The car becomes very unstable when driving on the grass and will skid at the
slightest turn. Almost like driving on ice. Seems like that would be the
case when it's wet, but probably not too realistic for dry conditions.

TOCA realism question

The only realism question I have about the game is the lack of retirements
and fatal crashes. I`ve only seen one retirement
in about 50 races. Hopefully they`ll correct this for TOCA 2.
