I'd be VERY surprised if any application/game gave you grief because of
the chipset, it's more likely drivers that will have problems.

I think that compatibility issues are more or less a thing of the past -
they were rare back in the Pentium clone days, and even rarer now.

I can state you'll have no problems running GPL with an Athlon, as I do
it.  I'd be very surprised if any of the other games you mention would not
work either.
