  5 races, 3 disco's one blown engine. one wreck....Not a single race
finished...Is N3 always this bad?  Cars were warping all over the
place.  My cable modem could only manage pings around 200 to 270.
where's the faq for setting up a cable modem for online racing...

The internet is going to be as fast as the slowest connection.  Another
wards, If your cable modem is connected to an N3 race with 20 drivers
and the host uses a 33.6 modem. your going to be receiving data at 33.6.
err, something like that.  A cable modem connection will be at it's best
when connected to another cable modem, or connected to another type of
modem that has more bandwidth and speed then a cable modem.  Then
there's the computer it self, If the host is running a 386 then there
will be lots of warping.

On the other hand, If you are the host with a cable modem and have a
client with a 33.6 connected to you.. The client will be sending and
receiving data at 33.6. That's why the 3/84 core.ini is often used in
GPL.  to help those with the slower connections.  Set that core.ini to
2/150 and the 33.6 will be a warping demolition derby. err, something
like that.

Make sure you get the utility for setting your MaxMTU and rcv buffers.
EasyMTU is one of them.  go to www.winfiles.com and search on easymtu.  This
will GREATLY improve your connection.

Actually you're limited only by the speed of the HOST, I believe.  If
your host has cable and you have cable, you should be able to swap data at
the rate of the slowest cable modem.  Just because another racer in your
race has a 33.6 modem, doesn't slow EVERYBODY down to 33.6.  I read on N3's
beta newsserver that if it's optimized right, you should be able to connect
just fine with 28.8.  Again, MaxMTU and DefRcv(something) play a HUGE part
in minimizing packet loss and retransmission.

That's what I said isn't it? ;-)  If the host is connected with a
33.6,  That's the best anyone will get.  If he's connected with a cable
modem, that's the best anyone will get as long as your connection is the
same or better.  Anything slower then that cable host wont get the full
potential of what the cable modem *could* deliver to them.

Sorry, I misunderstood your statement.  Thought you were saying you'd
fall the speed of the slowest connection...

Ive tried this with my cable modem and it made things worse. Download
speeds increased greatly but it does not work well for online racing.

Dave try races with pings less than 150 ms.  This should reduce your
warping.

for a while it was tough finding low pings because everybody was
running Tally.  But now I've found a couple of servers that let my cable
modem ping around 62-97 and those have been very very good.  also
started using the beta 1104 patch.  That too seems to have stablized the
connections.
