Hi!

I have had a lot of fun reading about different
wifes having different reactions to us playing
different types of simulators, like F1GP, GPII, ICRI, II
Nacsar and others. I would just like, to thank them for
all the patience they have with us, spending countles
hours to perfect our driving. I myself just had
a few discussions about why it would be good to go out and
get a T2, and I am glad I am a good persuader.

I think in the end, they really like it because they
know we enjoy it so much.

Any other funny encounters anybody?

Greetings from Croatia

I think your wife, like mine, understands thus us boys need our time to
play in order to be happy the rest of the time.  'Cause if Daddy's not
happy - nobody is.

My time to race is 9:00 in the evening after the kids are in bed - on
Friday night that can be several hours.  It doesn't hurt them a bit if I'm
racing while they're sleeping.

Keeps me happy!

My partner used to HATE autos racing, but now she is watching the F1, Indy
et al with me.  I came home the other night to find her watching a classic
F1 race from the mid 80's, and when she asked me about the Vancouver Indy
track i just HAD to show it to her on ICR2.  Big mistake!  For the last
week I have had to share car time with her!  I am persuading her to buy a
new machine for herself so we can race head to head.

                               Cheers!

You are truly fortunate. While I wouldn't want to share computer time
w/my wife, she really doesn't like motor racing at all, or my interest
in online racing or real racing.  She tolerates it, but we have much
friction here.  ;-Z  Whaddyagonnado?

Same here!  After a lot of persuadsion, my girl friend finally decide to
take a spin on the Nascar on Talle... (well, you couldn't find an easier
track).  But she just doesn't like it, and think it's stupid to say the
least ...  I envy people who have girl friends or wives that like
racing.

I now have to play my games late at night and pretend to have gone to
bed.  At least then, you wouldn't have phone calls to interrupt the
race!  But being a working person, it is not so good the next morning.

I got a kick out of this posting, so I had to reply.
My wife doesn't pay to much attention to me and my
"computer games" or whatever else I'm doing with the
computer.  When you try and explain that is not just
another "game" but an racing simulator she looks at
you strange and walks off. The only time she'll gets
on my case is when my son and I are racing head to head
and we got the volume turned up alittle loud.

I've been trying to get her to race but I'm afraid the
temptation to spin here or run her off the road would be
to great to pass up.  Once an accident of that nature occurs
things could possibly get alittle complicated, if you know
what I mean.

So maybe things sould be left the way they are, besides, it's
just a stupid "computer game".  ;)

Heh,
        Can't resist.
If she drives anything like mine does spinning out and getting run
into should be familliar territory. Of course it takes a while to
convince her that no you don't have to trade insurance info after
crashing a sim car :)

Maybe NFS just might be alittle more realistic for them, that way
you don't have to try and explain why race cars just go around in
circles and not anywhere else, plus having to be pulled over by
the police is something they could relate too.

I had to respond from a wife's perspective. I don't enjoy simulations or video games because for whatever
reason, I have very poor 'controller' coordination. I *hate* joysticks and although the steering device my
husband uses makes racing simulations easier I'm just not any good at them. *However* I am his crew chief on
our SCCA race team and do enjoy watching races with him. What's more, until recently, I was the one who
installed his simulations and tested the installation to make sure I had everything running properly before he
took the wheel.  Although I don't enjoy simulations I can do them well enough to make one or two laps to make
sure I have everything set up right. I'm the one who reads this newsgroup and keeps an eye on various homepages
for updates and setups that he might be able to use.

I hesitate getting serious on this 'funny' subject but my Wife left me
for another man five months ago and my 'obsession' with computer
racing was a major factor.   I was on it most of the time.

Obviously not THE cause but because I was not providing her needs
which consisted of COVERSATION and AFFECTION - she looked elsewhere.
Hey it could have been fishing or something else I know.   Just an
observation that I made too late.   Spend the quality time with the
ones who count.   DO NOT LEARN YOUR OWN MISTAKES - LEARN FROM ME.

BTW - I never dreamt it could happen to me.   I had hobbies and
interests that had me home all the time.   It was not the same.   My
wife has made a big mistake and I wait patiently until she realises.

Sorry to get heavy on RAS but I just had to say something.   Thanks
for listening.

Cheers,

Craig

My girlfriend has progressed from "Why are you playing those
STUPID games on that STUPID machine?" to "I beat Command&Conquer!!!, I
beat Duke Nukem 3D!!!". Most nights she kicks me off so she can have a
go at it. Lately, she has been typing for me when I race against a
buddy so I can concentrate on steering, and she even took the wheel
for a practice lap or 2.

I found the main problem she had originally was I spent TOO MUCH TIME
(3+ hrs/night) with the COMPUTER, making her feel ignored. By
scheduling a time when she had knitting or was out to work, I got the
PC.

let me play!". It's her PC too, ya know :) .
