Just a thought, not really a heartfelt request. But it would be nice to kind
of integrate the GPL and N2002 communities a little more. After all, until
recently, I wouldn't buy N2002 because it was NASCAR and I thought the
physics were going to waste. One bargain-bin later and I realise just how
much the physics have advanced since GPL. Maybe something like running GPL
tracks in N2002 would convert more simmers? Just a thought.

It's one thing to remember in real racing too. Late-braking seems fast, but
you only spend like <10% of your lap on the brakes, so the gain in time is
minimal when compared to the risk. Going in to turns steadily gives a better
line through the corner, and makes you faster out of the corner (and along
the following straights) so it is much more of a benefit. Damn hard to force
yourself to brake early tho, it just seems wrong.

Especially when the habit has served you well for at least 4 years of
intense sim racing, my accomplishments before 98 is best kept a secret
:-)

I'm working on it though, and making some progress, it's just that I
love late braking, gives you a feeling of actually "racing", and very
useful for tricking people into mistakes so I can overtake them ....
every now and then, despite what Mr Harris might think :-)

Another thing...
Early braking makes it much easier to not make the screetch sound but just
the scratching sound ;-)
Saving tires can easily save you a pitstop.
One pitstop less can mean one lap gain...

Kinda nice to just let the hotlappers by, and then pass them while they
change tires. Ending up 20 to 40 secs infront at the end of the race :-)

(ok, now I'm talking normal _clean_ oval racing with almost no yellows)

Ah, but I don't race GPL :-), the only driving I do in GPL is firing up
the Eagle or Honda every once in a blue moon and doing a few laps at
Zandy

I admire GPL a lot, but the cars themselves are of little interest to me
as I need doors and a roof, and if possible Bathurst

But I do brake late in GPL as well, but not as late as I've been doing
in N2/3/4/2002 or other sims due to the unstable nature of the GPL cars
when braking during corner entry, never could find a decent setup for
that, but then again I never really got into GPL so I'm not the right
person to make a qualified statement about it

Yes yes, I know you're all shocked now, "He doesn't race GPL !!!", well,
the secret is out I guess :-)

"EldredP"

Eldred, Goy and the other old hands in the TPTCC leagues have always
claimed the 'slow in fast out' approach was the best way to go fast.  Of
course when I tried that, I got punted from behind by the AI that Goy helped
create.

Sorry about that Dave :-), I know the slow in fast out approach is the
"correct" one, doesn't mean I'm actually following it myself, I managed
to get late braking to work reasonably well for me in the older sims,
and now I'm paying for it by having to relearn how to drive

Feel better now ? :-)

After the misreable performance I put in last night with the TPTCC DTM
league????  NO!

That's the problem with the slow-in, fast out approach.  You get punted time
and time again because people aren't paying attention behind you, or they
are just to close to react in time.

It's actuially smarter to start slowing earlier than you normally would
if you're behind someone. You'll stand a better chance of getting by
them the next time they***up.
