9700 pro and Porsche Unleashed problem

by doug. » Sun, 20 Apr 2003 05:40:15

Hi,
I've just replaced my Voodoo3 with a 9700 pro and find that most older games
can be coaxed into running on it. However, NFSPU won't co-operate. It runs
but slowly and in almost a slide-show fashion.

I need some tips please, from anyone who has got these 2 working together.

I have NFS:PU running under XP Pro, Cat 3.1 drivers (just haven't tried 3.2
yet), DX9.0.

Nothing special was done either :-(

Maybe try turning off Triple Buffering in the 3Dsetup program.  I had it
off, but I don't think it'll make a difference.

You need to run 3d-setup again. It's probable that the game defaulted to
software render mode when it no longer saw the previous card that was
selected by 3d-setup.

Tried running 3Dsetup, no difference. For some reason it seems not to be
accessing the Dx7 driver.

Make sure NFSPU is updated to version 3.5.  Just do a google search to find
the file.  I'm running a 9700, winXP, and dx8.1

Was already 3.5. Also XP Pro, and Dx8.1. I'm kinda baffled.

Not sure what else to tell you.  It's working well for me...  You said you
ran 3Dsetup, are all of the settings in the in-game menu correct for your
machine?

"doug.d" <

   I don't have PU(well I have a nifty demo disc with Mario Andretti's old
CART Lola packaged with it..but I've never opened it!!!)
But have you tried completely removing PU and re-installing?

From way back I saved this item.  Give it a try:

"At the end of your short cut on the desk top "c:\program files\electronic
arts\need forspeed-porsche2000\porsche.exe" put it at the end driver=dx7z.
then you should get 32 bit options.  After this use the desktop shortcut to
run the game (or change your startmenu item to match)"

I suspected my copy of the game so I bought another copy today (cheap now).
Works fine now, thanks. Had a tough time copying my data to the new game,
the glitch kept coming with. Sorted eventually by uninstalling and
re-installing in same directory so I kept my files and got a new file which
replaced the corrupt file, although I still don't know which one it was.

PU on my XP system required a compatiblity switch under XP, run as win98.
Allocates too much VM if it runs under 2000 or XP.
