Fix Avaialble For This T2 Problem?

by K W » Tue, 13 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

I had the old T2 apart today to clean the steering pot for the first time,
and when I opened it up, I found some extra pieces that came from one of the
rollers that the bungee cord routes over.  Upon closer examination, I found
that the other roller was starting to crack and isn't too far behind the one
that has come apart.  To be specific, the rollers I am speaking of are on
either side of the steering "column", and they are the black nylon
rollers/sleeves that go over the 2 posts on white nylon steering
"column"/centering piece that also doubles as the travel limiting mechanism.

I called TM to get replacement parts and they said that the wheel assy. has
to be sent in to repair this problem - but they are also talking 2-3 weeks
turn time (including shipping back to me) that I don't have to be without
the T2 due to the series I run in.  Has anyone had to replace these rollers,
and if so were you able to get the parts from TM, or did you send your T2
in?  OR - being the tinkerers we are :-), has anyone come up with a
worthwhile fix for this problem?  I have a few ideas, but I would like to
know if anyone else has been through this yet so I can learn from their
experience regarding this matter.

Thanks in advance!!

When it comes to certain parts, Thrustmaster "insists" the unit must be
sent in for repairs.  I have tried in vane to convince them to change
this policy regarding certain parts.  However, the upside to this is
that since those parts have worn out, it is likely others components of
the steering yoke are getting weak as well.  Thrustmaster will more than
like totally rebuild your wheel back to its "brand new" feel.
