T2 pro fix old problems???

by Jammi » Sun, 28 Sep 1997 04:00:00

I have read about the new wheel IE.. feels good, good control, nice brakes
etc...
BUT did they upgrade the return springs?
did they use better pots?
or is this the same T2 in a new package?
Those are the questions that I need to know before I upgrade. Any answers
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jay

I don't know about the pots, but I would think so.  However, the spring
design for the pedals is completely different than the T1/T2.  It looks
like they should hold up very well indeed.  First the travel is already
limited so that should help somewhat.  But the new spring design is so
different from the orginal that I highly suspect we won't be hearing
about spring breakage.  The worst I could expect is maybe a little
spring fatigue, in other words the "tension" maybe be less than when
first out of the box.

If you are thinking about upgrading, it is well worth it.  I think the
improvements and the new feel are worth taking a look at the NASCAR
Pro wheel if you feel your T1/T2 is getting a little long in the tooth.

I am not sure about the quality of the pots, but I suspect that alot of
the problems people had with their pots in the older Thrustmaster
wheels/pedals were due to dirty contacts.  I've never "wore" out a pot,
but have needed to "clean" them periodically.

Here is the info I obtained for the pots in the NASCAR Pro pedal unit:

T2 Pedal Pots= 250K Ohm, 270 degree effective rotation.

NASCAR Pro Pedal Pots= 100K Ohm, 80 degree effective rotation.

This should help with some programs where there were calibration
problems.  I would assume that the wheel also is using a 100k Ohm pot.

First find some quality "switch/tuner" cleaner/lubricant.  You should be
able to find this at a electronics supply shop or at Radio Shack.  Comes
in an aerosol can with a small tube attachment for the nozzle.  The
attachment is needed to direct the spray into small openings.  Most pots
have areas where one can direct the spray inside the housing.  Usually
this is where the solder lugs are for the wires.  I spray a liberal
amount in here and some up through the back of the housing.  Then work
the pot back and forth a number of times to spread the cleaner around
to clean and lubricate the contacts inside.

The Radio Shack part number for their cleaner is 64-4315.  It's a little
spendy, but should last for a number of cleanings.  One of the reasons
it costs so much is that it is an "ozone" friendly product.

That's an oxymoron. Quality/Radio Shack :)
That cleaner is not good IMO. I get my stuff at an electronic repair
shop and costs about 15 bucks. Does not get sticky like some other
brands. And I don't have to clean nearly as often. You might want to
give it a try. It's made by Phillips.

I was just going to say that :)

What I have been looking for is an optical pot for my homegrown wheel.
No contact, no dirty, no problem. Only problem is, is do they even
exist?
