GPL - flashing problem

by Arto Wik » Sun, 22 Apr 2001 03:42:45

Hi GPL'ers,

I have a graphics problem that is not so severe, but it might
be the cause of my failure in staying on-line, too.

Now when I have updated drivers, went to DX80.a, ..., always,
when I come back from track to the pits screen, the background
is flashing. If I push the red button and then cancel, the
screen is ok.

Any clever suggestions?

My system: AMD 1.1 GHz, GF2 GTS 32Mb, driver 4.12.01.0634,
monitor Triniton CPD-E220E.

I have the same thing, haven't tried it online though (not that good yet)
It seems to be a 'feature' og the GF series of cards....

It's the 6.34 driver (and later versions) in combination with GPL. The 5.33
drivers don't have this problem. You might also try the newest 12.00 driver,
my impression is that it happens less often in this version. You'll find all
driver versions here:

Well, it's not a failure of the card as such, just the beta D3D renderer.

I"m using DX8a, with the 6.5 drivers and have no problems with the D3D
patch?

This has been a long standing problem with GPL. It should not have anything
to do with your on-line connections. In fact, it is stricly just an
annoyance as I have never had it cause any major problems with my racing.
Just flashing in the menus. It is not just a D3D or nvidia GeForce issue
either. I have had this problem virtually from the get go in 1998 with a
Voodoo2 and the Glide driver for GPL.

Imo it is definately a driver problem. Couple of weeks ago when I
bought my GFII GTS, I tried allmost all available drivers.
With some drivers I had the flickering, with some I didn't.
It's annoying but not really a problem. Just press escape once and
click cancel, or go to your setup menu and return, and the flickering
stops.
More annoying with the d3d patch is the problem with the miss-colored
flags..

and MIP Map Dithering.

Hope this helps
