RASCAR: First Race

The last I heard, the first race was going to be this Saturday at noon (the
8th).

Is this still the game plan?

Are we going to have a 'test' period tomorrow night so we can make sure
everyone can log in ok?

Finally (and I bring this up not desiring to create another ugly thread)
would we be better off using the Jasper setups instead of the fast setups?

I think there needs to be a mix of which setups to use.
The Jasper setup at daytona sucks, serious push.  At MIS, in the demo, the Jasper setup was better on long runs.
At Lowes, both of them are difficult, but the Jasper setup is almost undriveable.

We may even have to consider slower setups.

had the same experience with the jasper setup at lowe's.  Went offline and practiced with it about 45 min. but closest i could come to my best time with the jasper setup was about .4 seconds slower. and even after practicing with it, if I didn't do everything just right, I still spun out. don't much like it.

This is the problem with fixed setup racing. What is good for one person is
not for another. For me the fast setups are waaaaaaaaay to loose and are a
pretty much assured to end up with a flat rear end from backing it into the
wall. For me the Jasper sets are much better. Other people find the Jasper
setups way to tight. Not that I run RASCAR myself, but I wouldn't even
consider a fixed league with the fast setups. To bad there wasn't an option
to force one of the original game setups.

Sad you feel that way. RASCAR is about having fun saturday evenings,
not spending the whole week prior finding that extra .1 second. :)

I think you might have taken it wrong. I'd do a fixed setup league in a
heart beat if it was the Jasper setups, just not the fast setup.  For me I'd
have to spend all week practicing with the fast setup just so I wouldn't
take out half the field, and there is no fun in that.

So what's the general concensus...

Is the JASPER the better starting point, or is the FAST setup the better starting point?

The host can force any setup on his/her system they want.  It's not limited
to included setups.

Which is why I like what we do.  I SUCK at setups :)

Yeah, me too. In the GPL league I'm in, I just use some old Lotus
setups that Doug Arnao made, set the proper fuel level and race :)

It's not the technical challenge, it's more availiable hours better
used on the track practicing driving skills.

I ran a pickup race at Atlanta with the Fixed setup and it really is
UN_DRIVEABLE.  Beyond loose.  The beta testers were sleeping on this one for
sure...  I tried C***te for a sec and its about the same..

RASCAR, we need to think about NOT using the fixed setup that shipped with
the game...

If we have a practice race tomorrow, it should be at Daytona so we can
practice for next weeks first race. Last years RASCAR SS races were not very
good.

I had no problem with the fast setup at Atlanta. Felt great. What kind of
controller do you use Mitch? I'm sure the way some of these setups feel to
people is related to the type of controller they use. Maybe adjusting the
steering lock would help a lot.

Have yo utried adjusting the steering lock so they car isn't so sensitive to
steering input?
