Papyrus has released a pre-alpha AVI of Grand Prix Legends which is
available on GameSpot at http://www.racesimcentral.net/
There has been a lot of good discussion on r.a.s. recently concerning
physics and realism in racing simulations. It is clear that there are
folks on the newsgroup who are knowledgable about what makes a sim
great.
With that in mind, we decided to release the GPL AVI to show people
how the development of the project is coming along, and what Papyrus
is aiming for. We hope to release further AVIs as the development of
the project continues so everyone is kept a*** of where the project
stands.
In this AVI, Dave Kaemmer (Papyrus' principle engineer) and Matt
Sentell (GPL Producer) race each other around one lap of Monza. The
AVI should pretty much speak for itself, but one interesting aspect is
the two different driving styles of Dave and Matt. Although they both
do comparable lap times, Matt (in the second car) is very smooth and
steady throughout the couse. Dave, on the other hand, is really
tossing the car around, mostly just because he can. Neither style
seems to be faster, although Dave's showboating ultimately results in
his demise, as you will see at the end of the AVI.
If anyone has any questions about GPL after viewing the AVI, I will do
my best to answer them. Matt and Dave themselves are pretty busy
getting the work done, (when they aren't racing GPL, that is) and they
asked that I follow up with the AVI on their behalf.
