       That sounds like a sound approach.  I generally leave tires as
soft as I can for grip and only change them if I get excessive wear.
Tire pressure can regulate your tire temps.  Nascar drivers have learned
that a slightly over-inflated tire will still last(with good driving) and
give more speed.
