I guess the first thing to do is to make sure you have a
problem.  There are lots of 30 MPH corners on the Formula One
circuit.  Name a course, and some corners, so we know exactly
what you are talking about.

F1RS drives differently than GP2.  One of the things some of
us like about it is its treatment of "slip angle".   F1RS tends
to slide before adhesion is lost, GP2 has almost none of this.
Tire ware can cause the problem you are talking about.  If this
is a situation that happens with fresh tires?  If it happens
after a few laps, go to the garage and look at the tire ware.

I'm not familiar with gamepads, is anybody having any luck
with one of these?  Have you had a chance to try a wheel?  If
you know someone who owns one, you might ask them to bring it
over.

You might have a problem, check some simple things.  Get
the latest drivers for your 3D card, preferably a 3DFX.  Get
the latest F1RS patch, 1.09.  If you are using a Thrustmaster
ACM joystick card, make sure you have gone through the "Add
New Hardware" stuff to add it.  Make sure you have properly
calibrated your gamepad for WIN 95.

You have come to the right group, we should be able to
help.

thanks for the reply!  my controller works ok...and i can drive around
just fine with it....but for some reason, it appears that the fresh tires on
my car just do not grip the road at all.......i slip through every single
turn....

someone else posted that F1RS is like racing on banana peels........is this
true?  is there some setting where i can change that?

Why? It was still a gamepad. Analog or not, it probably is the
source of the problems.

The Xterminator has a digital pad and analog pad. He stated he was using the
analog pad.

You've never used (or seen) the Xterminator have you? There is an analog AND
digital pad, the analog part being like a flat joystick.

Get rid of the game pad (digital...on/off) anduse an analogue
controller.  Even a half-decent joystick will make a great improvement.

I hope you know what Bruce was getting at.  A gamepad usually means
that the controls are either full ON or full OFF with no discrete
steps like a joystick or wheel.  (This is probably what he meant be
digital.)   It is basically the same as using a keyboard...yuck!  I
not sure about that particular gamepad but if it's like most gamepads
he's going to have some difficulty making smooth turns to say the
least.

Okay...I used the words "digital" when he stated that he was using an
analogue pad. My error.

What I should have expanded on was the term "game-pad". Compared even to
a joystick the amount of "analogue" motion is far less.

I still think that he needs to start with at least a joystick and work
from there.

ALRIGHT!!!!

ahem.  sorry.  yes, i am using an analog controller.....(the gravis has one
built in, as has been mentioned).

i remember playing indycar racing for countless hours...this is my first
re-venture into F1....and the graphics are gorgeous.

but i'm concerned that i just can't keep the car on the road....the best way
to describe it is.....my car keeps hydroplaning through turns.....help!

i REALLY want to start enjoying this game...but right now....oh no!  here
comes a turn!  CRASH!

F1RS does seem to have alot of oversteer built into the default setups.
If you haven't already done so, go to http://www.f1racingsim.com and try
some of the setups there and see if they help.  If they do, work on
modifying the setups to your driving style.
