There is a pack/unpack utility (can't remember where), but normally you
don't need to pack the new sounds into the .dat file.

If you just put the sounds into the correct directory, GPL will
automatically read them in place of the equivalent sounds inside the
.dat file.

Pretty convenient, as it means you can get rid of the non-.dat files
later and you're back to the default sounds.

Give Papy another star!

GPL is great for new sounds and car skins because you don't have to
repack the DAT file :-D

Just place the new sound files in the appropriate folder.... GPL/sounds
... or wherever the corresponding DAT file is.

I have just started downloading some enhanced sounds (.wav files) for
GPL and I understand I need a pack/unpack utility to insert them into
the .dat file.

I haven't managed to track this utility down - can anyone point me in
the right direction please?

You can simply copy the files to the sierra\gpl\sound folder.
Most of the sounds will work fine that way.

Hey, Guys

I thought you needed Nigel Patinson's CarSound.exe in order to have
different engine notes for the different marques.  Isn't that so?

It worked for me with GPL v1.1

Hey, Erik --

Now, I'm confused.  When the 1.1 patch was released, I did a completely new
install of GPL, applied 1.1 and then a bunch of other graphics and sound
patches, including Nigel's sound utility.  I have seven different car sounds
(downloaded from various places) plus different f2 and f3 sounds.  If I'm
understanding you, that shouldn't be possible?  Please explain.

Thanks!

Kurt

Only if you want a unique sound for each and every car.  GPL uses the same
engine sound for different cars.  Nigel's utility doesn't work with v1.1
BTW.

It is possible...it works fine.  Let's hope it does so for the next patch,
too!!

Marc.
