I noticed that a year's subscription to Classic & Sports Cars now gets you a
free copy of GPL.  Clear 'em out, boys!

says...

I really can't stand open-wheel racing (CART *or* IRL), and am a die-hard
Nascar fan, but...

It's really too bad that as advanced as GPL is (as a simulator), it's
already in the bargain bins, even though nothing has been developed (or
is currently under development) that eclipses it.

In this world of dumbed-down user interfaces and milk-toast performance,
GPL is most definitely a solitary point of light in an otherwise dark
universe.

It's truly a sad thing because I feel that driving GPL has made me a
better Nascar sim driver, and *everyone* could learn a thing or two about
race car dynamics by trying to master GPL.

Well put John, couldn't agree more, and the first company that comes out
with an Aussie V8 sim based on something similar to the GPL engine,
better if they can :-), will get my everlasting admiration, not to
mention my hard earned money

it's nice to see someone talking like that john, it's called honesty, i know
how much you hate open wheel, but i remember how good you always were at
gpl.

you took to the challenge of open wheel admirably.

I wouldn't say too bad its in the bargain bins, well maybe from a
programmers point of u and $$ it is, but look at how long its been out.

If the sim had had more support from we the customers, it would probably
still be on the shelves

The good days, I'm still hoping on them coming back one day. Any chance of
that, Tim or John?

Harjan.

Who still remembers his disastrous one chassis race at Rouen in the Eagle. I
had been setting the pace all week at the practises. And during the race I
blew it all, made a stupid pass on John and felt almost as bad as after my
Formula Palmer test.

New effort to market GPL

Hmmmmm, the only truly disastrous race *I* had was event #1 at Monza when
I blew the engine in my Brabham as I crossed the start/finish line after
the green flag dropped.  I thought the spec races were some of the best
events we ran.

And no, there's no hope for a return of IGPS.  My upload speed was capped
to the point that I can no longer be a viable host.

Unfortunately, ***'s not the ONLY area where the "dumbed down
interface" is becoming more common: look at commercials (a harbinger of
things to come for the rest of the world): the shots last no more than a
second or two, the music is often either Thrash or Glam and the colors lack
style.  Look at cartoons on TV or ads in print: no longer is there any sort
of attempt at realism - just a lousy stick figure look-alike.  Personally I
find it insulting - and disheartening.
You can tell it's a shame when something like NFS outsells GPL (or even
N3).  But look at this way: how many 1.5 yr old programs are still selling
AT ALL?

John... 99% of the titles that are 2 years in age are in the bargain bins.
You don't see much of them in the shelves whatever they are good or not.

Funny. I have never undestood neither Nascar, nor oval racing generally,
but I like even ovals, when I drive them by GPL, and I've also had fun
driving N3 on all kinds of tracks...  :-)
