These are some figures that I got from the LOG-file you can create
with the GP2 LOG:ON command. Notice the difference on video speed
when I had the S3SPDUP activated. I have a P133 with 16MB 70ns RAM
and a ASUS VT64 (Trio64) graphics card with 2MB DRAM.

The figures below are tests done in WIN95 DOS-mode. The driver
S3SPDUP is a small utility which I recommend any S3 card owners.
Its freeware, and written by Dietmar Meschede. It can be found at:
FTP Directory: ftp://ftp.uni-muenster.de/pub/msdos/mesched
WWW Homepage:  http://www.racesimcentral.net/~mesched

Clean:
========================
Processor (x86): 5
Speed (c.f. DX2-66): 258
Video speed: 257

With UniVBE 5.2:
========================
Processor (x86): 5
Speed (c.f. DX2-66): 258
Video speed: 256

With S3SPDUP activated:
========================
Processor (x86): 5
Speed (c.f. DX2-66): 258
Video speed: 471

The results are cutout from the GP2LOG.TXT that is created
when you startup with GP2 LOG:ON command.

I ran the log:on and on my P6/200, Matrox 4 meg, 32 megs, I got
the following:
Processor (x86): 6
Speed (c.f. DX2-66): 379
Video speed: 606

This might be of interest to those considering whether a P6 is good
for this type of ***.

Just checked the video speed of my P133 with 16Mb and ATI Mach 64
video card with 1Mb and got the following - devastating - info in my
gp2log.txt:

Processor (x86): 5
Speed (c.f. DX2-66): 258
Video speed: 70  !!!!!!!!!

Compared to yours and other values I've seen on this list, this is
awfully low. I've tried all sorts of drivers like M64VBE, UNIVBE51,
S3SPDUP but they make no difference. Has anyone any suggestions on how
to speed up GP2 with this card, are should I just get a decent video
card?

Thanks, Hans.

Have yet to get my hands on GP2 but wonder if S3SPDUP will increase
frame rates in both VGA and SVGA modes?

I have a P133 w/ 16mb EDO RAM, 2mb VRAM Diamond Stealth 64.

The biggest challenge we may all may face is finding the "optimal"
configuration for our machines!

Thanks, Mike

Using Dietmars utility, in your experience do the 'eyeball' results in
GP2 reflect the benchmark?

I don't think you should be worried. I wasn't really sure about what
these figures meant. But processor speed is a index compared to a
DX2/66. My friend got a over 320 on his 166MHz. But his S3 card gave
lover figures than mine. I think it is a lowres VGA test, because when
I tried different settings (not using S3SPDUP VGA) the values didn't
change. The more important values is what you get in the settings,
what GP2 suggest as framrate and how much graphics should be on.

Perhaps the Mach64 is a bit slover in lowres VGA, but it is in fact
the processor that does almost all work. So if you wan't a faster GP2,
I'll go for a faster processor first.

Per,

Based upon my own experimentation with Dieter's S3SPDUP (3.02), I'm
inclined to believe now that the unsually high benchmark achieved is
really an indication somehow associated with VGA performance, and that
as such the figure is misleading and not really relevant in comparing
SVGA results.

Tests performed on a 32Mb (60ns FP DRAM), iP133, Triton FX with 256kL2
modular PBC, AOpen 2Mb (60ns DRAM) S3 764 (Trio 64) which supports VESA
1.2 in firmware. Running DOS 7.0 exclusive real mode session with only
Win95 'stub' loaded.

In-Game options are pre-selected to start the game in SVGA.

Check out my results (listed below) which IMO are indicative of this.

What do you think?
