GP2 - Hardware Shmardware

Welcome, Friend!

I don't know what you people are reading...*I'VE* been playing F1GP2
since last August!

1-900-Psychic?

Heck Yeah!

I have no Idea what all the whining and crying is about...I've been
playing this in full color SVGA with full details with my HP 48G
scientific calculator with an infra-red link to my ECC Competition
Controls Unit, like I said, since last August!.

oh...wait...I'm 2 weeks and three days too early, aren't I?

heh

Yes indeed this newsgroup has succumbed to the bullshit plague that
seems to be sweeping the motor racing simulator world. Virtually every
subject header on my newsreader has GP2 in it somewhere. So I thought
I'd chip my oar in and join the frenzy... :-)

Release dates I won't mention - it arrives when it arrives. I'm just as
eager as the next sad-no-life-no-friends-love-my-computer person for it
to arrive, but until they're happy with it, we wait. I think r.a.s can
do without anymore 'I know the release date' posts.

The only point I want to make is this. Many of the articles in r.a.s are
rattling on about how you need a Cray II or Deep Thought to run the game
in CGA with all the details turned off, one other car on the track, and
the frame rate set to once a month. My questions are-

1. If the _final_ version of the game hasn't been seen yet, how do you
know?

2. The people that say that MPS are waiting until everyone has a
pentium, do they really believe that this will happen in a couple of
months?

3. Would MPS be stupid enough (even though they released GPM!) to
release a game that only a fraction of people would be able to play at
anything like a decent frame rate and detail level? Or am I the only
person in the world without a Cray II or Deep Thought?

It's been said before, but it's worth repeating - let's just wait and
see shall we?

Couldn't agree more. I am really p!$$ed off by the postings about GP2 is
going to be released by this and that date and is now being pushed back
to this and that date. First I have to ask: How do you know? A lot of
s/w stores give bs dates and even Microprose itself doesn't know exactly
when, how do you guys determine GP2 will be released by a certain date?

Second annoying thing is the uninformed bunch asking the availability
of the demo. It is not going to be released, period.

Third annoying thing is the speculation about the hardware requirement
of GP2. If it indeed does need a P90 to run in CGA mode, well, too tough.
The competition will catch up if it sticks to current technologies. Remember
when Wing Commander needed a decent 386 to run well when everybody at that
time only had XT's and 286's? If GP2 runs well in VGA with your 486DX2/66,
cry. It will be obsolete in a couple of months.
