I heard that the program defaults to using a low speed uart chip but
you can tell the program to utilize a 16550 uart. Any truth to this?
does it solve the problem?

I tried running a modem-race with a friend and it went pretty well. Of course
you wont get it to run as nice as in single player, but it wasnt as bad as
I thought it would be after reading all articles with people complaining
about really bad modem connections, bad framerates and so on... I found it
really playable. Maybe because we used the uart 16550 parameter. Wouldnt know,
Ive never tried the default com-port speed.
