I heard that the program defaults to using a low speed uart chip but
you can tell the program to utilize a 16550 uart. Any truth to this?
does it solve the problem?

Dont know if it runs smoother, but yes, you can tell GP2 to use a 16550 uart.
Type "GP2 /?" and get the parameter to use. I think its "GP2 use16550" you
should type.

I tried running a modem-race with a friend and it went pretty well. Of course
you wont get it to run as nice as in single player, but it wasnt as bad as
I thought it would be after reading all articles with people complaining
about really bad modem connections, bad framerates and so on... I found it
really playable. Maybe because we used the uart 16550 parameter. Wouldnt know,
Ive never tried the default com-port speed.

I've tried both and it makes NO difference. I'm connecting two pentium
150's with two Hayes Optima 288's and the Lead machine's Processor
occupancy flickers rapidly between 100% and 200%. Even when the frame rate
is decreased it still fluctuates by 100%. Too slow and annoying for me and
I think most other people will agree.

Run gp2.exe with use16550 after it then switch off data and error
control use a low frame rate and no mirrors this works fine for us.
