GPL: tracks

by Han Monsee » Tue, 22 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I think some interesting tracks could be made for GPL:

- Hockenheim. Wasn;t used in F1 at the time, but still an interesting
track.

- Indianapolis. Was part of F1 till 1960. Would be great to race on.

- Reims. French GP was held alternatingly at Rouen and Reims. If the one
was the French GP, the other was a non-CC race a week before.

- Jarama. Hosted Spanish GP occasionally during 50s till 70s.

- Buenos Aires. Hosted Argentine GP occasionally during 50s and 60s

- Oesterreichring. Hosted Austrian GP during 60s and 70s

Other suggestions??

These tracks would be great to race.
But give Dave Noonan and all the people, who were involved in creating
Brands a break:))

Of course!

I am just hoping that things go the same way as with GP2  some time ago:
after the pioneers finally found out how to edit tracks, others started to
edit. Within months, almost any track in the world was created.
Wouldn't it be great if this happened to GPL, too.

Mont-Tremblant.  Too dangerous for Formula 1, hosted the 1968 and 1970
Canadian F1GP.

If I'm well-informed didn't Hockenheim have the chicanes it has today.
Just imagine... A long straight (maybe 3 km), the infamous Ostkurve,
another long straight and then that motodrome-section. Must be great.

What about for us American boys, road atlanta, the old configuration with
turn 11 under the bridge and air born.  I would like to see that.

Mount Panorama (F1 never got there, AFAIK, but what a track!), Road Atlanta,
and perhaps Mid Ohio?  I know there is no F1 association with any of these
tracks, but they are all fantastic 'drivers' tracks.

How about recreating the Berlin race track?

You mean the Hockenheim where Jim Clark died in 1968 in an F2 race?

How about just any damn track, 1967 season or otherwise.  I don't
understand the need in this group to stick religiously to 1967.  If we
want the 67 season, we just use those tracks.  So why can't we have any
track in the world?  Small to large, road to oval, and, if you wanted to
get really crazy, off road (and I'm NOT an off roader).  Isn't the fun
just driving the damn cars on A track?  If you lived where I do, and
owned a 67 vintage F1 car, wouldn't you want to drive it at Road America?
I sure would!

Yes, why don't we start with the other tracks that 'our' cars ran in 'our'
year:
Oulton Park, Jarama and Syracuse? They were all non-championship races in
'67. Then there's the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans ofcourse (it seems to be
dull, but it would surely beat Dubai), and the Tasman series tracks.

After Dave Noonan has finished all those, I'd like to see Clermont-Ferrand

In Dutch there is a saying 'every doctor has his own graveyard'. This
could easily be converted to 'every track has his own graveyard' If tracks
at which famous drivers have died would be excluded, what would be left?
